Difference Between Marigold and Calendula

Difference Between Marigold and Calendula

Since ancient times, the Chinese people have given high praise to chrysanthemums, which are known as the four gentlemen among flowers. It is not as elegant and rich as the peony, nor as pure and proud as the lotus, but the chrysanthemum is a world of its own, with an elegance that others do not understand. There are many kinds of chrysanthemums, marigold and calendula are two of them. Next, let's see how to distinguish marigolds from calendulas.

Difference Between Marigold and Calendula

1. The difference in color

As its name suggests, calendula is bright yellow or golden yellow in color. The color of marigold is generally orange or yellow. The petals of calendula are like narrow tongues, and there are not many petals on a flower. However, marigold has a lot of petals, which are layered and very beautiful. The difference between marigold and calendula can be seen from the color and shape alone.

2. Differences in growth environment

Calendula prefers a slightly acidic environment and generally grows very fast. Calendula is best planted in a sunny place, which is very conducive to its growth and development. Marigold prefers sandy soil, preferably fertile and well-drained soil. Like calendula, marigold also likes sunlight and must be planted in a sunny place.

3. Difference in distribution range

Calendula was originally produced in western Europe, but now it is most common in the UK and Israel, where it is also the most famous. Marigold was originally produced in Mexico, but now it is also widely planted in coastal and southeastern my country. Marigold is mainly planted in my country for decoration and exhibition.
