Kiwi fruit is also known as kiwi fruit, which is actually the Cantonese translation of kiwi fruit. Many people think it is a specialty of New Zealand, but in fact its ancestral home is China and it was introduced to New Zealand a century ago.

Morphological characteristics: vine; branches are brown, with soft hairs, pith is white, and lamellar. Leaves are nearly round or broadly obovate, with obtuse or slightly concave apex, rarely with small protrusions, rounded to heart-shaped base, with awn-like small teeth on the edge, sparse hairs on the surface, and dense gray-white star-shaped hairs on the back. Flowers are milky white when blooming, then turn yellow, solitary or several flowers grow in leaf axils. There are 5 sepals with light brown soft hairs; 5-6 petals with short claws; many stamens, yellow anthers; many styles are filamentous. Berry eggs are oblong, with a horizontal diameter of about 3 cm, densely covered with yellow-brown branched long hairs. Flowering period is May-June, and fruit ripening period is August-October.

Distribution: Grown on the edge of the forest or in the bushes on the hillside, and cultivated in some gardens. There are three major kiwi production areas in China: the first is the Funiu Mountain, Tongbai Mountain, and Dabie Mountain areas in Henan; the second is the Qinling Mountains in Shaanxi; and the third is the western part of Hunan Province.

Nutritional information of kiwi fruit

The Chinese kiwifruit is large in size, with a single fruit weighing between 70 and 100 grams; the peel is yellowish-brown and densely covered with fine hairs; the flesh is green, yellow or light yellow, with light stripes on the cross section; the core is white or light yellow; the seeds are dark brown or purple brown. The vitamin C content in the fruit is particularly high, with each 100g of fresh fruit containing 100-200mg of vitamin C, and up to 420mg in some; it contains 8% to 14% sugar; 1% to 4.2% total acid; 0.446% aspartic acid, 0.210% threonine, 0.185% tryptophan, 0.6002% glutamic acid, 0.240% glycine, 0.245% alanine, 0.3615% proline, 0.102% cystine, 0.023% methionine, 0.237% isoleucine, 0.294% leucine, 0.140% tyrosine, 0.197% phenylalanine, 0.214% lysine, 0.125% histidine, 0.304% arginine, and various amino acids such as r-aminobutyric acid and hydroxybutyl amino acid; it also contains actinidin, proteolytic enzymes, tannins, as well as various mineral elements such as calcium, phosphorus, potassium, and iron. It is also resistant to storage. Fresh fruits picked at the right time can be stored for 1 month at room temperature and can be kept fresh for more than 5 to 6 months at low temperature.

Uses: The root is used as medicine to clear away heat and detoxify, promote blood circulation and reduce swelling, and promote diuresis and relieve stranguria; it can be used to make soil pesticides to kill tea caterpillars, rice borers, aphids, etc. The stem contains a sticky colloid and can be used as a raw material for construction and papermaking. The leaves can be used as feed. The flowers can be used to extract essence. The fruit contains sugars and organic acids, especially vitamin C, and can be eaten raw or made into jam.

What are the therapeutic effects of kiwi fruit

1. Treat high fever and thirst

You can eat 3 to 5 fresh kiwis each time, 3 to 4 times a day. Or take fresh kiwis, wash them, mash them, soak them in cold boiled water, and then drink them slowly.
