Why are apples sour?

Why are apples sour?

Apple is one of the most commonly eaten fruits, but some people find that the apple tastes sour when they eat it, but they don’t know why the apple is sour, so they especially want to know the reason. For this reason, I specifically did some research and found that there is indeed a reason why apples taste sour. Now I write it down to tell you.

Why are apples sour?

1. Apples become sour because they are not ripe enough

Many apples taste sour because they are not ripe enough. Unripe apples contain about 5% malic acid, but this malic acid will ferment as the apples mature and slowly turn into various sugars. That is, after the apples are fully ripe, their sour taste will weaken and they will become sweet and sour. Therefore, when the apple tastes very sour, it proves that it is not ripe.

2. Apples become sour because they have a high acid content

Another important reason why apples taste sour is that they contain a high amount of acidic components. These natural acidic components are an important part of the nutritional components of apples. They can regulate the secretion of gastric acid and have a significant helping effect on human digestion. However, for fully ripe apples, part of the acidic components will be converted into sugar, which will reduce its sour taste.

3. Malic acid is caused by the substances it contains

Although apples taste slightly sour, they are actually an alkaline fruit and are very beneficial to human health. The acidic components in apples will naturally transform into substances that are beneficial to the human body after entering the human body. Especially after an oxidation reaction, they will become alkaline components that are beneficial to the human body. Therefore, although apples taste slightly sour, they are harmless to the human body. On the contrary, they have many benefits.
