How to grow strawberries outdoors

Strawberries are bright red in color, rich in nutrients, and taste sweet and sour. Many people like to eat them. Some people want to grow some themselves for easier consumption, but they don’t know how to grow strawberries. Today, the editor recommends a simple strawberry planting method for everyone, which is the open-air strawberry planting method.

How to grow strawberries outdoors

1. Open-air strawberry planting conditions

When you want to plant strawberries, you need to choose an open-air environment with sufficient sunlight and good soil permeability. The soil depth should be about ten inches. Such an environment is most conducive to the growth of strawberries.

2. Field management of open-air strawberries

The amount of fruit produced by open-air strawberries in the first and second years after planting is very small, so necessary management is needed. When planting, the row spacing should be set at about twelve inches, and the strawberry vines should be removed during the peak growing season. If conditions permit, the removed vines can be planted elsewhere, and they will grow into new strawberry plants.

3. Winter management of open-air strawberries

Strawberry is a perennial herb. If you want it to survive the winter safely when it is planted outdoors, you need to do some necessary treatment. The best way to do it is to cover the surface of the strawberry plant with soil in late autumn, and then cover the strawberry plant with a thickness of more than ten centimeters of hay after it starts to freeze in winter. When the weather warms up in the spring of the following year, remove the hay, which is most conducive to the safe wintering of the strawberries. In the third year of outdoor strawberry growth, it will be in its peak fruiting period, and then everyone can eat a large number of fresh strawberries that they have grown themselves.
