Where are figs produced? I believe everyone wants to know where they are. Let me introduce to you the specific origin of figs.

Where are figs produced?

The main fig producing areas in China are Xinjiang, Shandong, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong, Shaanxi, Sichuan and other places. Figs in North China are mainly concentrated in Qingdao, Yantai and Weihai along the Shandong coast. Figs in Jiangsu Province are mainly distributed in Nantong, Yancheng, Danyang and Nanjing. Figs in Fujian Province are mainly cultivated in Fuzhou, and there is also a certain area in the suburbs of Shanghai. Figs in Xinjiang are the best in the country in terms of both yield and quality. Although figs are widely planted in China, they are rarely concentrated in large areas and are a rare fruit variety.

Where figs are produced

In addition, there are several species of figs in China. The Wenguang fruit in Hebei area, the Tianxiang fruit in Sichuan area, the Zuoduzi in Guangdong and Guangxi areas are all called figs. In fact, their flowers are hidden and not easy to see. Similar plants include rubber trees, banyan trees, bodhi trees, and Xueli trees.

Fig trees like sunshine, warmth and relatively dry continental climate. They are drought-tolerant, not cold-tolerant, not wind-resistant, and like fertilizer. They are not very strict about soil. They are salt-tolerant, but not waterlogged. Figs are one of the fastest-growing fruit trees in the world. They are also an excellent ornamental plant. They not only have a large shade, but also have a special fragrance in their leaves, which is pleasant and refreshing. They are less prone to diseases and insects, and can filter out harmful gases such as sulfur dioxide, sulfur trioxide, and benzene in the air. They are suitable tree species for urban greening.

Introduction of figs

Figs are a multiple fruit developed from the receptacle and other organs of the flower. The receptacle of the fig rolls up in the middle, wrapping the pistil like a dumpling, but in fact the whole fig is a flower. Figs are spherical, oval, pear-shaped or loquat-shaped, with skin colors of yellow, green, light red, reddish brown, dark purple, etc., and flesh of pink, dark red or creamy yellow, etc. When you break open a fig, you will see many clumps and small seeds, which are the seeds formed by pollination. The pistil is the one that bears seeds, and the stamen is the one that does not.

Almost every new shoot of figs can become a fruiting branch, and almost every leaf axil is a fruiting part. Fruits are gradually borne and mature from the lower part of the branches upward. When new buds and leaves are unfolded in spring, a young fruit grows at the base of each petiole, eventually forming "summer fruit"; while the new shoots extend and grow, they gradually form receptacles from the base upward and grow into "autumn fruit". Autumn fruit grows on new shoots that grow in the current year, while summer fruit grows on branches formed last year. Around the end of May of the lunar calendar (after the summer solstice), the remaining fruits that overwintered the previous year mature; the fruits that first set in the current year mature in mid-July; the second set of fruits mature after September; the remaining unripe fruits will mature in the second year after overwintering, which is a characteristic of figs.
