Historical Origins

The cultivation of Yidu mandarin oranges has a long history: in 450 AD, there was a record about "Yidu mandarin oranges" in the book "Jingzhou Ji" written by Sheng Hong. The long history of cultivation has attracted countless literati and poets to write about it, and also attracted many experts and scholars to explore the past and discuss the present. "On the clear river bank in spring, there are two hectares of gardens with thousands of mandarin oranges. The blue clouds are ashamed of the dense leaves, and the white snow avoids the dense flowers. The fruits are set with the border envoys, and the tubes are opened close to the supreme. After the peaches and plums are ripe, they are finally presented to the Golden Gate." This poem "Hengchi Mandarin Garden" was improvised by Du Fu, a realist poet in the Tang Dynasty, when he visited the scenery of Hengchi Mandarin Garden in Yidu. The "Hengchi" mentioned in the poem is near the Huamiao Dike in Lucheng, Yidu City. In the Qing Dynasty, Peng Ying, the magistrate of Yidu County, also wrote the beautiful sentence "Ten miles of yellow mandarin oranges are lush, how about eight hundred mulberry trees?"
