【Properties】

The belly is oblong or spindle-shaped, 2.5 to 9 cm long and 1.5 to 4 cm in diameter.

Gray-brown or gray-brown, slightly pubescent. Hard and brittle, easily broken, horny in cross section, shiny, wall thickness 0.2-0.3cm, smooth inner wall, with dark brown dead aphids and gray powdery excrement. Peculiar smell, astringent taste. Horns are rhombus-shaped, with irregular horn-like branches, obvious pubescence, and thin walls.

【Identification】

Take 0.5g of the powder of this product, add 5ml of methanol, ultrasonically treat for 15 minutes, filter, and use the filtrate as the test solution. Take another 0.5g of the Chinese gallnut reference medicinal material and prepare the reference medicinal material solution in the same way. Take the gallic acid reference substance and add methanol to prepare a solution containing 1mg per 1ml as the reference substance solution. According to the thin layer chromatography method (Appendix Ⅵ B), take 2μl of each of the above three solutions and spot them on the same silica gel GF254 thin layer plate, use chloroform-ethyl formate-formic acid (5:5:1) as the developing agent, develop, take out, dry, and examine under ultraviolet light (254nm). In the chromatogram of the test product, spots of the same color appear at the corresponding positions of the chromatograms of the reference medicinal material and the reference substance.

【Content determination】

Take about 2g of the powder of this product (pass through No. 3 sieve), and at the same time take another powder of this product to determine the moisture content (Appendix Ⅸ H Method 1), weigh accurately, and determine according to the tannin content determination method (Appendix Ⅹ B). This product, calculated on a dry basis, contains no less than 50.0% tannin.

It is used for chronic cough due to lung deficiency, cough with phlegm due to lung heat, chronic diarrhea and dysentery, night sweats, thirst, blood in stool and hemorrhoids, bleeding due to trauma, carbuncle, sore and ulcer, and wet and rotten skin.
