How to grow Kalanchoe? Cultivation methods and precautions for Kalanchoe

Kalanchoe, also known as longevity flower, belongs to the Crassulaceae family. It is a beautiful evergreen succulent plant with a particularly long flowering period of four to five months. It is particularly beautiful and generous when made into a potted plant, and has a high ornamental value. Especially after the Spring Festival, when the Kalanchoe flowers bloom one after another, the festive atmosphere will be particularly strong. But how should this plant be raised? Are there any special things that need to be paid special attention to during its cultivation?

How to grow Kalanchoe

1. Change the pot in time

The Kalanchoe should be repotted once a year during the cultivation period. When repotting, its roots should be cleaned and rotten roots cut off. At the same time, the soil should be replaced with loose, fertile, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. A certain amount of shares should be applied to the soil as base fertilizer. Only after the nutrient soil is prepared can the Kalanchoe be planted in it.

2. Water appropriately

Kalanchoe is an ornamental plant with particularly strong vitality. As long as it is given the right soil and watered in time, it can grow normally. However, this plant has a relatively high requirement for water during the cultivation process, and different watering principles should be mastered at different times. Especially after it enters the flowering period, it cannot be over-watered, and an appropriate amount of mineral water should be used. Only in this way can its flowering period be extended and its flowers be brightly colored. In addition, in the hot summer, water evaporates quickly, so it is necessary to increase the number of waterings appropriately and spray water on the leaves of Kalanchoe.

Things to note when growing Kalanchoe

1. Pay attention to the direction of light

Kalanchoe is a plant with a particularly strong phototropism. When cultivating it, you must pay attention to the direction of its light. It cannot be exposed to sunlight on one side for a long time, otherwise its branches will grow in the same direction, which will reduce the ornamental value of the plant. Under normal circumstances, when cultivating Kalanchoe, the flowerpot should be rotated every 3 to 5 days to allow the entire plant to receive sunlight evenly.

2. Pruning and pinching

When growing Kalanchoe, you should also pay attention to timely pruning and pinching, especially after it enters the peak growth season, when its straight branches grow very fast. It is necessary to pinch the tops, which is the only way to promote its branching and make its plant shape fuller. After the flowering period of Kalanchoe, you should cut off its withered flowers in time to prevent them from consuming too much nutrients and affecting the number of flowers that will bloom next time.
