How to grow the maidenhair fern How to grow the maidenhair fern

The maidenhair fern is beautiful and can be placed on the bedside, windowsill, coffee table or even in the bathroom. It is very beautiful and elegant. Now I will introduce to you the cultivation method of the maidenhair fern.

How to grow the maidenhair fern

1. Soil

The soil for the maidenhair fern is loose, permeable, fertile calcareous sandy loam. When potted, the culture soil should be a mixture of equal amounts of loam, leaf mold and river sand.

2. Watering

During the peak growth season of the maidenhair fern, you need to water it fully and keep the soil moist. The air humidity is also very important. You can also sprinkle water around the maidenhair fern. In summer, you need to water it 1-2 times a day. If there is a lack of water, the leaves will shrink. When watering, be sure not to let the soil in the pot dry for a while and wet for a while, as this is most likely to cause the leaves to turn yellow.

3. Sunlight

The maidenhair fern prefers bright scattered light and is most afraid of direct sunlight. If the light is too strong, the leaves will turn yellow or even die. In summer, it should be shaded and placed in a dark place indoors.

4. Temperature

The most suitable temperature for the growth of the maidenhair fern is 21-25℃ during the day and 12-15℃ at night. In winter, you should keep warm and keep the minimum temperature above 5℃ so that the leaves will remain bright green. The temperature should not be lower than 5℃, otherwise the leaves will be frozen.

5. Fertilization

Apply thin liquid fertilizer 2-3 times a month to the maidenhair fern. Do not stain the leaves when applying fertilizer to avoid causing leaf rot. Frequent application of calcium fertilizer will have a better effect. Reduce watering and stop fertilizing in winter.

6. Pests

Leaf blight often occurs in the maidenhair fern. Bordeaux mixture can be used for prevention and treatment in the early stage. In severe cases, 1000-1500 times diluted 70% thiophanate-methyl can be used for prevention and treatment. If scale insects harm the plants, 1000 times diluted 40% omethoate can be used for prevention and treatment.

7. Pruning

After autumn, the temperature drops and the growth of the maidenhair fern will become slower and slower. The old leaves will gradually turn yellow and need to be cut off.
