eggplant

Eggplant Introduction:

It is called the Six Vegetables in Zhejiang Province and dwarf melon by people in Guangdong Province. It was introduced from India. Eggplant is rich in nutrients, containing protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins, as well as calcium, phosphorus, iron and other nutrients. Now, after research by the Academy of Agricultural Sciences, eggplant is not only limited to cooking, but can also be eaten raw as a fruit. It is a new variety - milk eggplant.

Other names: dwarf melon, eggplant, purple eggplant, white eggplant

Planting season: January-March (in South China, sowing can also be carried out in June-July).

Eggplant-seedling cultivation

① Mix the seeds with fine soil and spread them evenly on the soil surface. Cover with film when the temperature is low and provide shade when the temperature is high. Keep the soil moist until germination.

② Keep the soil moist during the seedling stage, and transplant when there are 5 to 6 true leaves, usually 1 plant per pot.

Eggplant-Daily Management

① It likes sunlight, requires ventilation and light, and is relatively resistant to continuous cropping; the suitable growth temperature is 25-30°C, and the plants will be frozen if the temperature is below 5°C.

② When the plant height is over 30 cm, apply decomposed organic fertilizer once, and then fertilize according to the growth, about once a month; increase the frequency of fertilization from flowering to fruiting, about once every 10 days, mainly phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, and fertilize once after each harvest. Organic fertilizers should be used throughout the growth period, and peanut bran is the best.

③During the fruit-bearing period, the soil should be kept moist, and avoid alternating between dry and wet. Generally, water it in the evening.

④ When there are too many fruits, they should be thinned out. Generally, no more than 40 fruits per plant should be allowed to grow naturally. It is best to let the fruits hang down.

Eggplant-harvesting

The fruit can be harvested when it is full and the lower end is hooked. If you need to keep seeds, you should prevent pollen from other Solanaceae plants from mixing in. If the variety is pure, there will be no seeds in the upper half, but seeds in the lower half.

Eggplant-Nutritional Value

It is rich in nutrients, including calcium, phosphorus, iron, vitamin B, vitamin B2, vitamin C, etc. The solanine it contains has certain anti-cancer effects.
