Fruit corn diseases

Fruit corn diseases

When we grow fruit corn, we often encounter various diseases. How should we prevent and control them? Today I will tell you about it:

Fruit corn pest control

Pests and diseases that harm corn include cutworms, corn borers, beet armyworms, aphids, rust, etc. Spring corn is easily harmed by cutworms after transplanting, and in severe cases, it can cause missing seedlings and broken ridges. Prevention and control methods: If damage is found in the field after transplanting, spray it with 10 ml of 1.8% avermectin + 10 ml of pyrethroid pesticides mixed with a spray water (10 kg), and assist with manual capture in the early morning until the damage is gone. Corn borers eat corn cobs and corn stalks, seriously affecting the quality and appearance, and making sweet corn lose its commercial value. Prevention and control methods: Use 1.8% avermectin per mu during the trumpet mouth stage of spring corn.

50 ml of avermectin + 30 ml of 5% fenpyroxil mixed with 20 kg of medium-coarse yellow sand for filling. In addition to filling the heart of the second crop of sweet corn, during the tasseling and heading stages, use 10 ml of 1.8% avermectin + 10 ml of 5% fenpyroxil or 10 ml of pyrethroid pesticides to spray a sprayer with water, and use 40-50 kg of liquid per mu. In the year of severe outbreak, the drug should be used continuously for 2-3 times, and artificial capture should be used in the early morning. Aphids generally do not need to be treated with drugs. If rust occurs in summer corn, 25% triadimefon 1000 times liquid can be sprayed. Sweet corn has a short growth period and is mainly eaten fresh. It is forbidden to use highly toxic and high-residue pesticides for disease prevention and pest control.

Harvesting, marketing and storage of fruit corn

It can be harvested and put on the market 20-25 days after silking. If harvested too early, the grains will not be filled enough and the edible value will be low. If harvested too late, there will be a lot of residue and the sweetness will be weak. Generally, it is harvested when the silk of the female ear turns black and the grains are just full. You can first conduct a small amount of trial harvesting and determine the best harvesting period before harvesting on a large scale. The best harvesting period for fresh sweet corn is 3-5 days.

Sweet corn should not be stored for a long time after harvest. Ordinary families can pick fresh corn, cook it, cool it down, pack it in plastic bags and put it in the refrigerator for quick freezing. When eating, take it out, thaw it and cook it again (do not use a microwave oven). It can be stored for 6 months in the quick-frozen state.
