Pepper is not only a common condiment, it can strengthen the spleen and appetite, promote qi and digestion, and can also be used as medicine to treat diseases. Chinese medicine believes that pepper is pungent and hot in nature, enters the spleen and stomach meridians, and has the functions of warming the middle and relieving pain, and stimulating appetite and digestion. The Compendium of Materia Medica says that it is "very pungent and hot, a pure yang thing, suitable for people with cold and damp stomach and intestines." The New Compendium of Materia Medica says that it "lowers qi, warms the middle and removes phlegm, and removes wind and cold in the internal organs." The Bencao Qiuzhen says that it is "even hotter than Sichuan pepper. It is effective for those who suffer from fire deficiency and cold, phlegm and food stagnation, cold diarrhea and yin-toxic abdominal pain, vomiting water due to stomach cold, and floating heat and pain in teeth. The disease heals itself after the qi and cold qi are removed." Pharmacological studies have shown that this product contains piperine, piperine, etc., which can excite the isolated intestine. Small doses taken internally have the effect of strengthening the stomach and expelling wind, which can remove gastrointestinal gas and promote digestion. Large doses of it can stimulate the gastric mucosa, cause congestive inflammation, and have a contraction effect on the uterus. Cooking it into porridge and drinking it has a very good therapeutic effect on abdominal pain, loss of appetite, indigestion, etc.
