Ingredients for Candied Haws

When making candied haws, rock sugar is a must, about 200 grams of it will be enough, and about 20 hawthorns, 200 grams of water, and four or five bamboo sticks will be needed.

Steps to make candied haws

1. Wash the prepared hawthorn with clean water, then remove the stems, and then cut the hawthorn in half with a knife, remove the seeds, and also remove the black stuff at the bottom with a knife.

2. After removing the seeds of the hawthorn, put the hawthorns together and string them into strings with bamboo sticks. There should be five or six hawthorns on each string. Set them aside for later use.

3. Put rock sugar into a frying pan and add appropriate amount of water. The ratio of sugar to water should be about 1:1. Turn on the fire and boil. Remember to use low heat. After the rock sugar is completely melted, stir it with chopsticks. When it is almost cooked, take out a little and drop it into the water. If it can condense quickly, it means the sugar is cooked.

4. Turn off the heat and quickly put the skewered hawthorns into the boiled syrup and roll them around. Take them out after rolling and place them on a non-stick plate to cool down. After they cool down, the sweet and sour candied haws are ready to be eaten.
