What are the medicinal values of pomegranate

Speaking of the uses of pomegranates, I have mentioned them in previous articles. It can be made into pomegranate wine, which can replenish vitamins and substances for the human body and purify the blood. In fact, the agate-like pomegranate also has extraordinary medicinal value.

1. Promotes the production of body fluids and relieves dryness

Pomegranates are juicy and have the effect of nourishing yin, promoting fluid production and quenching thirst. During the dry autumn, people with yin deficiency and internal heat constitution are prone to dry mouth and thirst, or those with yin damage after fever and red tongue with little coating. Drinking the juice from pomegranate seeds is very effective in preventing and treating dry mouth and tongue. Pomegranates contain more tannic acid, which has the effects of appetizing, aiding digestion, and stopping diarrhea.

2. Antibacterial and anti-inflammatory

The leaves, skin, flowers and roots of pomegranate can be used as medicine. The pomegranate skin is sour, astringent and warm in nature, toxic, and enters the large intestine and kidney meridians. Its main functions are astringent, hemostatic and anthelmintic. It can treat chronic dysentery, chronic diarrhea, blood in the stool, leucorrhea, worm accumulation, scabies and other diseases. Pomegranate flowers can stop bleeding, and leaves can treat eye diseases; pomegranate seeds are cool in nature and sour in taste, and have the effects of promoting qi and removing blood stasis, strengthening the spleen and warming the stomach, aiding digestion, and enhancing appetite.

3. Stop bleeding and stop bandage

Pomegranate peel has a good hemostatic effect. The charcoal can be taken orally to stop bleeding from hemorrhoids, and can also be used externally to stop bleeding from trauma. Leucorrhea is caused by gynecological inflammation, and pomegranate flowers have a good effect in stopping leucorrhea. Generally, white pomegranate flowers can be used for yellow and white leucorrhea, and red pomegranate flowers can be used for leucorrhea. 5-10 grams of fresh medicine can be decocted once.

4. Anti-oxidation and anti-aging

Pomegranate juice is rich in antioxidants, which can prevent atherosclerosis, slow down aging, and prevent tumors because pomegranate has a high content of polyphenols and another antioxidant, ellagic acid.

5. Lower cholesterol and prevent cardiovascular disease

Drinking 2-3 cups of pomegranate juice every day for 2 weeks can slow down the cholesterol oxidation process by 40% and reduce the deposited oxidized cholesterol; pomegranate juice not only slows down the cholesterol oxidation process, but also reduces low-density lipoprotein to the lowest level. Compared with red wine, pomegranate juice can prevent cardiovascular disease more effectively.

Pomegranate dietary taboos

Pomegranates contain a lot of tannic acid, which can react with proteins and calcium to produce a complex that is difficult to digest, which can easily stimulate the gastrointestinal tract and cause abdominal pain, vomiting, etc. Therefore, it is not suitable to be eaten with seafood such as crabs and shrimps. Pomegranates contain a lot of sugar, so diabetics are forbidden to eat them. People with colds, acute inflammation, and constipation should be careful when eating them.
