1. Plantain, perennial tufted herb, 3-7m high. With creeping stems, thick and heavy pseudostems, more or less covered with white powder. The petiole is very elongated, more than 30cm long, with many white powders, and the leaf wings are closed; the leaves are upright or upward, oblong, 1.5-3m long, 40-60cm wide, dark green on the surface, light green on the back, with obvious white powders, the base is nearly heart-shaped or ear-shaped, nearly symmetrical, and the tip is acute or pointed. The spike inflorescence is drooping, the inflorescence axis is glabrous, the bracts are ovate or ovate-lanceolate, more than 15-30cm long, falling off, purple-red on the outside, dark red on the inside, each bract has two rows of flowers, and the male flowers fall off; the perianth segments are yellow-white, the connate perianth segments are 4-6.5cm long, and the free perianth segments are about half the length of the connate perianth segments, transparent waxy, shiny, oblong or nearly round, with a small cusp, a cone tip or curled into a capsule at the tip. 【Pharmacological action】

The litholytic activity of fresh plantain stem juice has been tested. Zinc tablets were implanted into the bladder of rats to induce urinary tract stones, which were followed up with calcium oxalate. The main component of the formation was magnesium aluminum phosphate. Oral administration of plantain stem juice at 3 ml/rat daily was found to reduce the formation of stones or dissolve existing stones.
