Many of us love to eat bananas, especially the elderly, mainly because bananas can help the elderly effectively prevent constipation problems. But in fact, if you can ensure that you eat three bananas a day, you can get an unexpected effect, which is that it can help us reduce the problem of stroke.

Rich in potassium

Studies have shown that stroke can also be avoided by eating other potassium-rich foods, such as spinach, nuts, milk, fish and lentils. Although some previous studies have shown that bananas can affect blood pressure control and prevent stroke, the results have been inconsistent.

In the latest study, scientists analysed 11 different studies - dating back to the mid-1960s - and came up with the following results: consuming around 1,600 mg of potassium a day - less than half the 3,500 mg recommended daily intake for adults in the UK - is still enough to reduce the risk of stroke by a fifth.

An average banana contains 500 mg of potassium, which can help lower blood pressure and control the balance of water in the body. Too little potassium intake can cause irregular heartbeat, irritability, nausea and diarrhea.

Researchers from the University of Warwick and the University of Naples believe that citizens in many countries currently consume far less potassium than the recommended daily intake.

If consumers ate more potassium-rich foods and reduced their salt intake, the number of stroke deaths worldwide could be reduced by more than one million each year.
