pumpkin:

Pumpkin comes from the fruit of the Cucurbitaceae plant Cucurbita cucurbita. It is cultivated all over the country. Pumpkin is also called "candied pumpkin", "wax pumpkin", "northern pumpkin", "golden pumpkin" and so on in some places.

Pumpkins are native to southern Asia. Another theory is that pumpkins are native to Africa and South America. However, pumpkins were introduced to my country at least in the Yuan Dynasty. According to Li Shizhen, a medical scientist in the Ming Dynasty, "Pumpkins originated in the south, and were introduced to Fujian and Zhejiang. Now they are also found in many places in Beijing." Pumpkins are also a plant with strong adaptability. They can grow in front of and behind houses, in the corners of fields, and on the edges of fields. The yield of pumpkins is also very high, and one pumpkin vine can produce dozens of pumpkins.

Pumpkin is warm in nature and sweet in taste.

It has the effects of tonifying the middle and replenishing qi, strengthening the spleen and warming the stomach, eliminating phlegm and relieving cough, detoxifying and killing insects. It is used clinically in traditional Chinese medicine to treat qi deficiency, fatigue, cough and asthma, dysentery, malaria and other symptoms. Pumpkin is rich in vitamins A, B, C, multiple unsaturated fatty acids, multiple essential amino acids, carbohydrates, soluble fiber and trace elements such as iron, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, chromium, and nickel. Modern pharmacological experiments have shown that long-term consumption of pumpkin can alleviate diabetes, especially for mild and moderate patients. This is because pumpkin is rich in trace elements chromium and nickel, and insulin must be assisted by these two elements to work. Eating more pumpkin can also effectively prevent and treat hypertension and liver diseases, and improve the body's immune function. Pumpkin also has the effect of eliminating the mutation of nitrite, so it has a certain anti-cancer effect.

The vitamin C and glucose content of young pumpkin is higher than that of old pumpkin, while the content of carotene and trace elements in old pumpkin is higher.

Pumpkin is a treasure from head to toe. Pumpkin roots and stalks can treat carbuncles, boils, and burns. Pumpkin vines can treat tuberculosis, low-grade fever, stomachache, and irregular menstruation. Pumpkin leaves can treat dysentery, malnutrition and trauma. Pumpkin flowers can treat jaundice, dysentery, cough, carbuncle, and swelling. Pumpkin whiskers can treat pain caused by breast shrinkage in women. Pumpkin seeds can treat tapeworms, roundworms, postpartum swelling of hands and feet, whooping cough, etc.
