Storage and nutritional content of daylily

Daylily is a delicacy on banquets. It is rich in nutrients and tastes great. It is very popular among people and can also be dried for later use.

Daylily

It is a local product unique to my country, also known as daylily, forget-me-not, daylily, brain-boosting vegetable, etc. Daylily is cultivated in various parts of my country, mostly distributed in the south of Qinling Mountains in China. Because of its thick petals, golden color, rich fragrance, fresh and tender taste, smooth and refreshing, like fungus and straw mushrooms, it has high nutritional value and is regarded as a "treasure on the table".

According to legend, Chen Sheng, the leader of the peasant uprising at the end of the Qin Dynasty, was poor and ill before the uprising, so he often begged for food. Later, he met a kind old woman named Huang, who often cooked some daylilies for him to eat. After a period of time, Chen Sheng's swelling gradually subsided, his illness was cured, and his body became stronger. Later, he and Wu Guang organized a peasant uprising and became a peasant leader. To thank Huang for her kindness, Chen Sheng invited her to live in his home and called daylilies "forget-me-nots".

When Chen Sheng and Wu Guang led the peasant uprising army to capture Chenzhou (now Huaiyang County, Henan Province) and established their capital there, the soldiers trampled the vibrant daylilies into pieces in the chaos. A local girl named Jinzhen was very sad to see this, so she carefully managed and cultivated the daylilies, and as a result, the daylilies came back to life. In memory of Jinzhen, people named the daylilies "Jinzhencai".

During the Qing Dynasty, Ji Xiaolan, a talented scholar known as "Iron Mouth and Copper Teeth", loved to eat day lily. He praised that day lily is a good dish, refreshing, crispy, and has endless flavor. People who often eat day lily are smart.

effect

1. It has the effects of strengthening the brain and anti-aging, can effectively prevent old age diseases, has diuretic and calming effects, and delays physical aging, so it is also known as the "brain-strengthening vegetable".

2. Daylily contains rich vitamins and minerals, which are nutritious and can promote metabolism. It is most beneficial to fetuses, the elderly and people who are tired from work.

3. Daylily can clear away heat, detoxify, reduce inflammation and relieve pain, and has a soothing effect on toothache and nosebleed.

Storage instructions

Daylily should be placed in a fresh-keeping box or bag and refrigerated.

Cooking knowledge

1. Before cooking, you can soak the dried day lily in warm water and then rinse it with clean water.

2. Fresh daylily contains colchicine. Excessive consumption can cause headaches, diarrhea, and the risk of poisoning. Therefore, it is advisable to soak it in water for more than 2 hours before eating, and then cook it thoroughly. Alternatively, blanch it in boiling water, let it cool, and then wash it with clean water before cooking. Make sure it is cooked thoroughly.

3. When cooking, the stamens of the day lily will dissolve in the soup, thus appearing dark brown. If you don’t like it, you can remove the stamens before cooking.

4. Daylily is suitable for salad dressing (should be blanched first), stir-frying, boiling in soup or as an ingredient.

5. It should not be stir-fried alone and should be eaten with other ingredients.

Dietary precautions

1. Daylily is a food close to dampness and heat. People with ulcers, gastrointestinal discomfort should eat less. People with a lot of phlegm, especially those with asthma, should not eat it.
