Corn herbicide types

Corn herbicide types

Today I will introduce to you the types of corn herbicides. Let’s take a good look:

1. Types of single-dose corn herbicides

1. Amide herbicides: This type of product is currently the most important type of herbicide in corn fields. It can be absorbed by weed buds and perform soil sealing treatment before weeds germinate. It can effectively prevent and control annual grass weeds and some annual broadleaf weeds. There are many varieties of this type of herbicide, such as acetochlor, alachlor, butachlor, isopropylamine, isopropylamine, etc.

2. Triazine herbicides: They can effectively control annual broadleaf weeds and annual grass weeds. They are mainly absorbed by the weed roots, and can also be absorbed by the weed stems and leaves in small amounts. Representative varieties include atrazine, cyanazine, simazine, and promethazine. Among them, atrazine is used more frequently, is safer for corn, and has the highest activity; but atrazine should be mixed with acetochlor to reduce the dosage, improve the weed control effect and the safety for subsequent crops.

3. Phenoxycarboxylic acid herbicides: mainly used to control broadleaf weeds and cyperus rotundus after corn seedlings. Representative varieties include 2-methyl-4-chloro-sodium salt and 2,4-D butyl ester. Among them, 2-methyl-4-chloro-sodium salt is widely used to control cyperus rotundus in corn fields, but it is easy to cause phytotoxicity if used at an inappropriate time.

4. Sulfonylurea herbicides: Nicosulfuron-methyl and Sulfonsulfuron-methyl can be used in corn fields to control grass weeds, sedge weeds and some broad-leaved weeds; Thisulfuron-methyl can be used in corn fields to control annual broad-leaved weeds.

5. Other herbicides: Paraquat and glyphosate are lethal herbicides that can be sprayed in a targeted manner after the corn is 40 cm tall to effectively control a variety of weeds. You can also use varieties such as silanol, benzylpyridinium, bromoxynil, and bentazon to control broadleaf weeds in corn fields.

2. Main types of herbicide mixtures

1. Acetochlor and atrazine 1:1 mixture: The earliest herbicide mixtures produced were acetochlor and atrazine suspension, which can be used to control annual grass weeds and broadleaf weeds before germination after corn sowing and in the early stage after corn seedlings, and are safe for corn and subsequent crops. Similar products include butachlor + acetochlor + atrazine, butachlor + atrazine, acetochlor + acetochlor + atrazine, isopropyl metolachlor + atrazine, isopropyl metolachlor + atrazine, etc.

2. Acetochlor and atrazine 2:3 mixture: This herbicide mixture can be used to control annual grass weeds and broadleaf weeds in corn fields before germination after corn sowing and in the early stage after corn seedlings. It is safe for corn; in particularly dry years, it may reduce the safety for subsequent wheat crops. A variety with similar performance is a mixture of chlorotoluron + acetochlor + atrazine, which can greatly improve the safety for subsequent wheat crops, but cannot be used for corn after seedlings.

3. Promethazine and atrazine mixture: It can effectively control annual grass weeds and broadleaf weeds in corn fields. The weed control effect is stable when applied before the buds sprout after corn sowing, and is less affected by soil moisture. However, when there is heavy rain, more leaching will reduce the weed control effect; if applied during the corn growing period, it may induce corn phytotoxicity when encountering adverse environmental conditions such as high temperature and drought.

4. Nicosulfuron and atrazine mixture: It is an ideal herbicide mixture that can effectively control not only a variety of annual weeds, but also perennial grass weeds and sedge weeds. It is easy to apply and safe for corn and subsequent crops. However, it cannot be mixed with organophosphorus pesticides before and after use, but can be mixed with pyrethroid pesticides.

5. Acetochlor, atrazine and paraquat mixture: It has both lethal and closed weed control effects. It can effectively control various weeds in corn fields when applied during the corn growing period. There are many similar products, and there are also herbicide mixtures that use glyphosate to replace paraquat.
