Zanthoxylum bungeanum is a deciduous shrub or small tree. It can be planted alone or used as a protective hedge. Zanthoxylum bungeanum removes the fishy smell of various meats; promotes saliva secretion, increases appetite; and dilates blood vessels, thereby playing a role in lowering blood pressure. It is edible for the general population, but not for pregnant women and those with yin deficiency and excessive fire.

Warming the middle and relieving pain; removing dampness and relieving diarrhea; killing parasites and relieving itching. It is used to treat cold pain in the abdomen caused by spleen and stomach deficiency and cold; abdominal pain caused by roundworms; vomiting and diarrhea; cough and asthma caused by lung cold; toothache caused by caries; vaginal itching and leucorrhea; and itchy skin caused by eczema.

1. Effects on the digestive system. Effects on experimental gastric ulcers: significantly inhibits the formation of hydrochloric acid ulcers in rats. Zanthoxylum bungeanum water extract can significantly inhibit the formation of pyloric ulcers in rats. It can resist diarrhea caused by castor oil in mice, and the effect is not only fast but also long-lasting. It can delay the onset of diarrhea and has an effect against diarrhea caused by senna leaves in mice, and the effect is slow. It can significantly inhibit gastrointestinal propulsion.

2. Effects on experimental thrombosis and coagulation system: Experimental in vivo thrombosis was induced by electrical stimulation of the arterial wall of rats, and its effect on coagulation function was measured simultaneously. The experimental results showed that the water extract of Zanthoxylum bungeanum had a significant inhibitory effect on thrombosis in rats and could significantly prolong the time of experimental thrombosis, suggesting that it has a role in preventing thrombosis. The antithrombotic and anticoagulant effects of Zanthoxylum bungeanum may be related to the anticoagulant components of platelet-functional vascular endothelial cells.

3. Analgesic effect: 5-10g/kg of Zanthoxylum bungeanum water extract and 3.0-6.0ml/kg of ether extract have a significant inhibitory effect on the writhing reaction of mice induced by acetic acid.

4. Antibacterial effect: The volatile oil of this product has a certain inhibitory and killing effect on 11 dermatophytes and 4 deep fungi, among which Microsporum woolly and Trichophyton rubrum are the most sensitive.

5. Anti-insect effect: The volatile oil contained in Sichuan pepper can cause serious poisoning of pig ascaris in warm Ren's solution.

6. Other effects: The cynarin contained in this product has ephedrine-like effects, but the intensity is weaker. It can increase the blood pressure of anesthetized cats, enhance the contraction of nictitating membranes, strengthen the effect of adrenaline on blood pressure and uterus, strengthen the contraction of the uterus in place of cats or rabbits, inhibit the contraction of small intestine and dilate coronary blood vessels, increase the tension of striated muscles, and strengthen the excitability of spinal cord reflexes. It has a strong antibacterial effect.
