Kidneys govern bones, so use sheep bone porridge to nourish the kidneys

Traditional Chinese medicine often says that "kidneys govern bones and produce marrow", that is, the bones of the human body are related to kidney function, and advocates that like nourishes like. This shows that the bones of certain animals can help us nourish the kidneys, among which sheep bones are the best for nourishing the kidneys. Records of sheep bones nourishing the kidneys appeared as early as ancient times, and modern medicine later confirmed that sheep bones contain calcium phosphate, calcium carbonate, bone collagen and other ingredients, all of which have the effects of nourishing the kidneys and strengthening bones, warming the middle and stopping diarrhea.

The so-called "Kidney governs bones" means that the strength of bones is determined by the surplus or deficit of kidney essence. Therefore, people with osteoporosis need to nourish the kidney essence. Only when the kidney essence is sufficient can the bones be strong and powerful.

The effect of mutton bone porridge

In addition to proposing the theory that "kidneys govern bones", Chinese medicine also advocates the health regimen of "like nourishes like". In other words, people with yang deficiency who need to nourish the kidneys can use animal bones to strengthen their bones, thereby achieving the effect of nourishing the kidneys. So, what animal bones are the best for nourishing the kidneys? The answer is sheep bones. The so-called sheep bones are the bones of goats or sheep. From the perspective of the nature, flavor and meridians of Chinese medicine, sheep bones are sweet and warm, and enter the spleen and kidney meridians. They have the effects of strengthening the body and bones, warming and nourishing the kidneys.

In ancient times, there were many records about sheep bones nourishing kidneys, such as sheep spine nourishing kidney deficiency, opening the Governor Vessel, curing back pain and diarrhea; sheep tibia treats spleen weakness, kidney deficiency, inability to retain semen, and leukorrhea. It can be seen that every part of sheep bones is a treasure for people with yang deficiency, but how can we make full use of these treasures to make the greatest contribution to our kidney nourishment? Regarding this point, the wise ancients, after many summaries, finally discovered a dietary therapy recipe - sheep bone porridge.

According to the "Yinshi Zhengyao", use a pair of sheep bones (smashed), 6 grams of dried tangerine peel, 6 grams of ginger, 6 grams of cardamom, 30 grams of ginger, a little salt, add water and cook into porridge. It can be used to treat patients with weak waist and knees due to consumptive disease, that is, it can treat the symptoms of kidney deficiency. It can be seen that sheep bone porridge can nourish the kidneys.

In his book Food and Medicine, Meng Shen of the Tang Dynasty also introduced that mutton bone porridge is a good recipe for nourishing the kidneys. Crush the bones of a young sheep and cook them until they are soft. Then add some garlic and leeks. When eaten on an empty stomach, it can nourish the kidneys. This porridge can treat kidney deficiency and coldness, and the inability to turn the waist and spine.

Wang Huaiyin, who served the royal family in medical and health care, also recorded lamb spine porridge in "Taiping Shenghui Fang": first prepare a lamb spine, 30 grams of Cistanche soaked in wine overnight, 0.3 grams of Cuscuta australis soaked in wine for 3 days, 3 chopped green onions and an appropriate amount of polished rice; then mash the lamb spine and put it into the pot to cook. Repeat the decoction 3 times, and filter the decoction each time and serve; finally, use the served decoction to cook porridge with Cistanche, Cuscuta australis and polished rice. When the porridge is almost cooked, add chopped green onions and an appropriate amount of seasoning.

This porridge can treat weakness and fatigue, replenish essence and energy, and the effect will be better if eaten on an empty stomach.

The above are the methods of eating mutton bone porridge by the ancients, which are a little complicated. Modern people have made some improvements on this basis. Now I will introduce to you a simple and economical way of eating: take about 1000 grams of fresh mutton bones, 60 grams of polished rice or glutinous rice, a little salt, 2 scallions, and 5 slices of ginger; wash and crush the mutton bones, add water to boil to make soup; use the soup instead of water, and cook porridge with rice. When the porridge is almost cooked, add salt, ginger, and scallions, and cook for a while before eating.

These mutton bone porridges can be made and eaten anytime and anywhere. They all have the effects of nourishing the bones, strengthening the tendons and bones, and strengthening the spleen and stomach. They have a certain inhibitory effect on diseases such as fatigue, thinness, kidney deficiency and coldness, poor rotation of the waist and spine, weakness of the legs and knees, and muscle and bone cramps. This dish is light and not greasy, nourishing but not too much, and is a good product for people with yang deficiency. But it should be noted that mutton bone porridge should not be eaten too frequently, otherwise it will be too much.
