What does betel nut taste like?

When I put it in my mouth, a refreshing taste rushed into my nostrils. After the coolness, I chewed it and it tasted slightly bitter. After I finished eating the betel nut, I felt a little dizzy, as if I was slightly drunk.

I felt a bit choked~~ I felt very refreshed afterwards~ But I ate only dried betel nuts~ I haven't eaten fresh ones~ Betel nuts are one of the four major southern medicines in my country. Hainan Province is the main production area of betel nuts in my country. Hainan people are very particular about eating betel nuts. First, cut the betel nuts into slices, then add seasonings (mixed into a paste with shell powder) and roll with betel leaves, then put it in the mouth and chew slowly. At first, it tastes astringent and has green water. After spitting out the green water, Danjin is produced. After eating, the ears are red and the eyes are dizzy, as if drunk. Just as Su Dongpo improvised in the past, "The red blush on the cheeks adds to the charm, who knows that you are drunk with betel nuts."

How to eat betel nut

Betel nut can be eaten raw or dried. To eat raw, cut the fresh green betel nut into small pieces and chew the flesh and core at the same time. To eat dried, boil the nut and dry it, and store it for long-term consumption. What is more interesting about eating betel nut is that you don’t just eat its flesh, but chew it with “Fuliu leaves” (commonly known as withered leaves) and ash (made from clam ash or lime) as condiments, which is the so-called “one mouthful of betel nut and one mouthful of ash”.

First, cut the betel nut into small pieces, take a little ash paste and put it on the "Fuliu leaf", wrap the betel nut pieces and put them in your mouth and chew slowly. At this time, the mouth foam turns red, and then spit out the mouth foam and sip the juice slowly. The more you chew, the more fragrant it becomes, and you will enjoy it with relish until your face becomes hot and flushed. This is called "drunk betel nut". Women who are addicted to betel nut will add a small amount of tobacco leaves, which is fragrant and spicy, like drinking strong liquor.
