The most traditional one is the starch extracted from the pith of the sago palm, which is processed manually. In coastal areas such as Guangdong, it is also called sago rice or sago rice. Sago is produced in the South Pacific Islands. It is made from the pith of the palm plant sago, using the common starch production method, through the process of crushing, slurry filtration, repeated rinsing, precipitation, and drying. When the starch is half dried, it is shaken into fine particles and then dried. This is sago. The one with pure white color is called pearl sago, which is white, smooth, and nutritious.

These dry, starchy granules are made from the Far East's sago palm (Me-troxylousagu). Sago is added to milk pudding as a food for patients and can also be used as a cooking ingredient, especially in Nordic dishes such as Danish sago soup.

Sago has the effects of strengthening the spleen, nourishing the lungs, and resolving phlegm. It can treat weak spleen and stomach and indigestion. Sago also has the function of restoring the natural moisture of the skin, so sago soup is very popular among people, especially women.
