The difference between Hypericum and Hypericum

Hypericum and Hypericum perforatum are both beautiful ornamental plants commonly found in nature, and they both produce gorgeous yellow flowers. They look similar and have similar names, which leads some people to mistake Hypericum and Hypericum perforatum for the same plant. In fact, there are obvious differences between them, which can be discovered as long as you pay attention.

The difference between Hypericum and Hypericum

1. Stem

There is a clear difference between the stems of Hypericum and Hypericum. The stems of Hypericum are mostly bright red or orange, and they are mostly quadrangular when young, and eventually grow into a cylindrical shape. The internodes of its stems are between 1 and 4 cm, and there are a large number of branches on its stems. The stems of Hypericum are mostly red, and the bark of the stems will turn orange-brown when it grows up.

2. Leaves

If you carefully observe the leaves of Hypericum and Hypericum, you will find the difference between them. The petiole of Hypericum is about two millimeters long, and the shape of the leaves is mostly lanceolate, sometimes oblong. The leaves of Hypericum are opposite, shrinking, and easy to break. Its leaves are mostly oval, green on the upper side and gray-green on the lower side. Its leaves smell natural, but the leaves of Hypericum have no fragrance.

3. Flowers

There are also obvious differences in the flowers of Hypericum and Hypericum after entering the flowering period. The petals of Hypericum are golden yellow without blush, and its length is between 1 and 2 cm. Its petals are mostly oblong or obovate. The stamens of this plant are countless, with 50 to 70 stamens in each bunch. The petals of Hypericum are golden yellow or lemon yellow, and they are triangular obovate, with a length of between 2 and 4 cm. It also has martial arts stamens, but artistic stamens only have 25 to 35 stamens.

4. Stamen length

There is also a clear difference in the length of the stamens of Hypericum and Hypericum. The stamens of Hypericum are only 2/5 or 1/2 of the length of the petals, while the stamens of Hypericum are relatively long, almost the same length as the petals. This is the most obvious difference between them and an important basis for people to distinguish between Hypericum and Hypericum.
