How to plant peony flowers? Planting methods and techniques of peony flowers

Peony is the national flower of China and a beautiful ornamental plant. It is said to be native to the Qinling Mountains and Daba Mountains in western China. It is a perennial deciduous shrub. However, China has already had a history of artificially cultivating peonies more than 2,000 years ago. Now it is also a precious variety among all flowers. Usually, many flower lovers like to cultivate peonies at home, but they don’t know much about its planting methods and techniques. Today, the editor will focus on introducing them to you.

How to plant peony flowers? Planting methods and techniques of peony flowers

1. Prepare potting soil

When you grow peonies at home, the preparation of the potting soil is very important. It is a plant that likes to work and needs loose and fertile soil. When you grow it at home, you should mix sandy soil and cake fertilizer together, then add an appropriate amount of coarse sand and mix well to make the potting soil.

2. Flowerpot selection

When planting peonies, the choice of flower pots is also very important. Because the roots of peonies are relatively long and their plants are relatively large, they are usually suitable for planting directly in the soil. If you want to make it into a potted plant, you must choose a large clay pot with good water permeability, and the depth of the pot should be more than 30 cm. If conditions permit, it is best to choose a clay pot with a depth of 60 to 70 cm to cultivate peonies.

3. Sunlight and temperature

When planting peonies, you must pay attention to the regulation of sunlight and temperature. This plant likes plenty of sunlight, but is afraid of exposure to the sun. After entering the hot summer weather, it must be shaded as necessary. Peonies will bloom in an environment of 17 to 20 degrees. Before blooming, they must be treated with a low temperature of 1 to 10 degrees, otherwise their flowering period will be delayed and the flowering time will also be affected.

4. Fertilizer and water management

When planting peonies, fertilizer and water management is also very important. You should water them enough before planting and once more before winter. Only in this way can they survive the winter safely. After spring comes, you can determine the amount of watering based on the dryness and wetness of the soil. The potting soil must not be too wet. Peony is a fertilizer-loving plant. During the planting period, you can fertilize it twice a year. The first time is before flowering, and the other two times are one month and two months after flowering.
