Cultivation methods and precautions of Metasequoia bonsai

Metasequoia is known as the living fossil of the plant kingdom. It is said that it appeared as early as 2.5 million years ago. Now other plants of the genus Metasequoia have become extinct, leaving only Metasequoia. It is very valuable in the flower market and can be placed at home after being made into potted plants. But how can this precious and ancient plant be raised well? I will write down the method of raising Metasequoia and tell you about it later.

Farming methods

1. Use a flower pot of the right size

When growing Metasequoia bonsai, you must use a flower pot of the right size. The flower pot cannot be too small, otherwise its roots will not grow normally, which will cause root rot and prevent new roots from growing. Over time, Metasequoia will slowly die. If the Metasequoia plant is very small when you start growing it, you can choose a small flower pot and change the pot in time in the spring of the following year. At this time, the flower pot should be enlarged as it grows.

2. Timely ventilation

The Metasequoia plant prefers a well-ventilated growing environment. When growing Metasequoia in potted plants, be sure to place it in a well-ventilated room and put wood at the bottom of the pot. Do not place it directly on the ground, otherwise the poor ventilation will cause leaves to fall off or roots to be damaged, preventing the Metasequoia in the pot from growing normally.

3. Pay attention to pruning the root system

When growing Metasequoia potted plants, you must pay attention to root pruning, because the root system of this plant develops very quickly, forming a dense and intertwined situation in the pot. When people repot single potted plants every year, they should take out the plant, remove all the rotten and aging roots at its roots, and then transplant it into a new pot. Only in this way can new roots be promoted to grow and the Metasequoia will grow more vigorously.

4. Water and fertilize appropriately

When cultivating Metasequoia potted plants, you must pay attention to moderate watering and fertilization. Although it is a water-loving plant, you must not water it excessively, and you must not allow water to accumulate in the pot, otherwise it will affect the normal growth of Metasequoia. In addition, Metasequoia has different requirements for fertilizers. It does not require frequent fertilization during normal cultivation. Fertilization once every two months is sufficient, and the fertilizer must be a thin liquid fertilizer.
