How to plant lipstick spider plant with illustrations and instructions

Lipstick Chlorophytum is an ornamental plant that many people like. It can be used for both foliage and flowers. This plant is also called lipstick flower and is a plant of the Gesneriaceae family. This plant has a long flowering period, bright colors, and a flower shape similar to lipstick, hence its name. When cultivating this plant, it can be propagated by cuttings, but how should it be done specifically? How should this lipstick Chlorophytum be raised?

Lipstick Chlorophytum cuttings

The ideal time for cuttings of Chlorophytum lipstickii is in spring and autumn every year. When cuttings are taken, you should choose strong and thick branches from Chlorophytum lipstickii. After taking them off, cut them into 7 to 10 cm segments and then insert them directly into loose sand. If there is no sand, you can also make your own culture soil with 50% fine snake wood chips, 20% pearl stone and 30% coarse sand, but this culture soil must maintain a certain temperature and allow the branches to receive 60% of the light. After a month, it will take root and sprout, and it can be transplanted into a flowerpot after it grows vigorously.

Farming methods

1. Choose the right soil

When growing a lipstick spider plant, you must choose the right soil. It likes loose and fertile sandy loam, and requires good soil drainage, and the soil should be slightly acidic. You can usually use peat soil, river sand, vermiculite and other materials to prepare nutrient soil yourself. In addition, adding an appropriate amount of calcium phosphate when preparing the nutrient soil will be more conducive to the growth of lipstick spider plant.

2. Provide sufficient sunlight

When growing lipstick spider plant, be sure to provide it with sufficient sunlight. Many people think that this plant likes a semi-shaded environment and often place it in a cool indoor environment. This is wrong. If it cannot absorb sufficient sunlight, its leaves will turn light green or yellow-green, and it will also delay the flowering period or even stop flowering.

3. Ventilate frequently

When growing lipstick spider plant, you must pay attention to frequent ventilation. The indoor humidity should not be too high, and it should not be placed in a high temperature, humid and poorly drained environment, otherwise its leaves and roots will rot. Especially in hot and humid weather, you should ventilate frequently and keep the environment fresh, which will allow the lipstick spider plant to grow well.
