Gardenia cultivation methods and techniques

Gardenia cultivation methods and techniques

Gardenia is an ornamental plant that many people like to keep at home. It has white flowers and green leaves, and has a high ornamental value. It can beautify the environment and purify the air. However, some people feel that they can never grow gardenias well at home. Either the leaves turn yellow or they don't bloom. This has a lot to do with the specific methods of growing gardenias. In addition, there are certain skills in intelligent breeding. The following editor will write them down and share them with you.

1. Cultivate with acidic soil

Gardenia is a plant that likes scattered light. It usually likes to grow in acidic soil. If the soil for growing gardenia is alkaline, it will not be able to meet the nutrient needs of gardenia during its growth, and it will affect the production of chlorophyll. In severe cases, the flowers of gardenia will wither or even die.

2. Cultivate in the shade

When you grow gardenia, you must not put it under strong light, because it likes stuffy and scattered light. If it is exposed to direct sunlight, its leaves will turn yellow. In addition, gardenia likes a humid environment when it is cultivated. The air humidity in the environment where the gardenia is placed cannot be lower than 70%, otherwise it will affect its flowering period. However, if the air is too humid, its leaves or roots will rot.

3. Fertilizer and temperature regulation

It is very important to regulate the fertilizer and temperature when growing gardenias, because gardenias are fertilizer-loving plants. However, you cannot fertilize them too much at one time, otherwise the leaves of the gardenias will be too large and the branches and leaves will be too thick, which will make them lose their original ornamental value. It is also very important to regulate the temperature when growing gardenias. This plant likes a warm environment. It grows most vigorously when the outside temperature is between 22 and 25 degrees. However, you must keep it warm in winter and do not place it in an environment below five degrees, otherwise it will die due to low temperatures.

4. Proper pruning

If you want to keep the beautiful appearance of gardenia, you must do necessary pruning. Otherwise, it is easy to find lush branches and leaves, dense and messy, which will not only affect its ornamental value, but also cause nutrient dispersion. It is best to keep three main branches during pruning, and then cut off the new branches at any time. After the flowers wither, the branches should be cut short in time to promote the growth of new branches again.
