Sleeping bag function Sleeping bag medicinal value

Have you ever seen a sleeping bag? It is a unique tropical plant native to Kenya and Tanzania. It is a kind of fleshy root plant. Most of its stems are exposed above the ground. The diameter can exceed one meter. From a distance, it looks like a big stone or a big bag on the ground. This is how it got its name. So what is the function of a sleeping bag? What is its medicinal value?

Efficacy and function

The sleeping bag plant has a unique tuberous stem and can grow a large number of vines. When it grows up, it has lush green leaves and a particularly strong climbing ability. Its height can exceed ten meters. It blooms in spring with a strong fragrance for people to appreciate. Beautifying the environment is its main function. This plant now appears in some tropical scenic spots in China, and can only reproduce through tubers.

Medicinal value

According to current written records, the sleeping bag does not have outstanding medicinal value, but in its hometown of Kenya and Tanzania, people will take the leaves of the sleeping bag, crush them and apply them directly to the body after bruises and swellings. It is said to have the effect of relieving pain and swelling, but no experimental data has appeared in China.

Morphological characteristics

The sleeping bag is a dioecious plant. Its huge tuberous stems can grow a large number of green vines above the ground, climb on other objects nearby, and grow into a hedge. In spring, it can bloom beautiful flowers, which are particularly ornamental. However, this plant is native to eastern Africa, where the climate is very different from that in China. Now the seeds of the sleeping bag will not germinate at all in China, and people can only introduce it through tubers.
