Poinsettia cultivation methods and precautions

Poinsettia cultivation methods and precautions

Poinsettia, also known as Christmas flower, is a common ornamental plant. It can be made into potted plants and grown at home. When growing poinsettia, you should choose loose sandy soil with good drainage. This plant has certain requirements for sunlight, temperature and humidity. I will write down the cultivation method of poinsettia and tell you later. At the same time, I will let you know what precautions should be taken when growing poinsettia.

How to grow poinsettia

1. Temperature and humidity

When raising poinsettia, you should pay attention to adjusting the temperature and humidity. Poinsettia is suitable for growing in an environment of 18 to 25 degrees. The minimum temperature in winter cannot be lower than ten degrees. There are certain requirements for humidity during this period. It is sensitive to water. During the growth period, it is necessary to ensure that the environmental humidity is sufficient, otherwise its leaves will turn yellow or fall off.

2. Light and moisture

Poinsettia is a short-day plant. It needs plenty of sunlight during its vigorous growth, which will make it more luxuriant. However, it is best to ensure that it receives sunlight for about nine hours a day. Poinsettia also has certain requirements for water during its cultivation. It should be watered every two days during its peak growth season, and water should not accumulate on its bracts when watering, otherwise it will cause leaf rot.

Precautions for breeding poinsettia

When raising poinsettias, you must pay attention to the prevention and control of diseases and pests. Stem rot, gray mold and leaf spot are common diseases of poinsettias. When they occur, spray fungicides in time, increase indoor ventilation, reduce humidity, and clean up diseased plants in time. In addition, whiteflies are prone to occur during the breeding period of poinsettias. When they occur, just spray insecticides in time to make the pests disappear.
