Tulip cultivation methods and precautions

Tulips are very beautiful. Now more and more flower lovers are growing tulips in potted plants at home. This way, you can not only enjoy the beauty of tulips at home, but also decorate your home. Today we will learn about the cultivation methods of tulips:

How to grow tulips

1. Soil

The soil required for tulip growth should be water-retaining and breathable, with neither too high salinity nor too acidic, and a pH value of no less than 6. The best effect is to use a mixture of peat, rotten soil and sand in a ratio of 1:1:1 as the cultivation medium.

2. Sunlight

Tulips need plenty of sunlight to grow. Insufficient sunlight will cause poor growth, bud drop, weakening, lighter leaf color and shortened flowering period. Tulips should be properly shaded within half a month after being potted to facilitate the growth of new roots.

3. Temperature

Tulips should be kept warm in winter and cool in summer. The most suitable temperature for tulip growth is 9℃ to 13℃. It is cold-resistant and can continue to grow at a minimum temperature of -35℃ in winter.

4. Watering

After planting, it needs to be watered thoroughly, which is conducive to rooting. After it sprouts, you need to control the water. When the leaves gradually elongate, you only need to spray water on the leaves to increase the air humidity. During the inflorescence and bud stages, you must ensure sufficient water supply to promote full development of the flowers. After flowering, you must also control the water appropriately.

5. Fertilization

Tulips have average fertilizer requirements. If the growth is weak, some nitrogen fertilizer can be applied. When the root system is well developed, 2 kg of calcium nitrate can be applied per 100 square meters, spread three times, with an interval of more than one week between each application.
