Seahorse Palace Tea

Seahorse Palace Tea

Introduction of Haima Palace Tea

"Among the best teas, Haima Palace is the best, followed by Guowa. When it is first brewed, it tastes astringent, but after brewing two or three times, it tastes fragrant, so people from far and near compete to buy it." (Dading County Annals, 1925). According to legend, during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, there was a man named Jian Guichao in Dading Prefecture, Guizhou. When he was the magistrate of Wendeng County, Shandong, he was quite interested in tea and felt that drinking tea could refresh and relieve fatigue. When he returned to his hometown to bury his father, he brought tea seeds back to Dading (now Dafang County) to settle down and plant them in Haima Palace. The tea was processed into tea, which had a strong aroma, a mellow and sweet taste, and a tea soup color like bamboo green, named "Zhuyeqing". It was sent to Dading Prefecture for tasting and won high praise from the government. Later, it was sent one by one to the court and used as tribute every year. It can be seen that Haima Palace tea was listed as a tribute as early as the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty and was well-known throughout the country.

Haima Palace tea is produced in Haima Palace Township at the foot of Youying Rock in Dafang County, Guizhou Province. The tea garden is surrounded by mountains on three sides and leads to the river valley on one side. The altitude is about 1,500 meters. The mountains are high and the clouds are dense, and the streams are crisscrossed. The average annual temperature is about 13℃, the effective accumulated temperature throughout the year is 4,670℃, the frost-free period is 260 days, the annual rainfall is 1,000-1,200 mm, and the monthly average relative humidity is above 80%. It is a relatively cold and high-humidity tea area in Guizhou Province. However, the tea garden is surrounded by mountains on three sides, forming a natural barrier to block the invasion of cold air. In addition, the dense vegetation in the area forms a unique climate condition in the community. In addition, the parent material of the soil in the Haima Palace tea garden is sandstone shale, the soil is loose, the potassium content is rich, reaching 127ppm, and the pH is 4.6-4.9, which is suitable for the growth of tea trees.

Haima Palace tea is picked from local medium and small group varieties, which have the characteristics of more hairs and strong tenderness. It is harvested around Grain Rain. Picking standards: Grade 1 tea has one bud and leaves just beginning to unfold; Grade 2 tea has one bud and two leaves, and Grade 3 tea has one bud and three leaves. This is consistent with what was said in the Tongren Prefecture Chronicle during the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1890 AD): "Tea with white hairs on the back is the best, and it is best to pick it a few days before Grain Rain."

How to brew Hippocampus Palace tea

Brewing method

First, enjoy the tea, clean the utensils, and wipe off the water drops in the cup to prevent the tea buds from absorbing water and reducing the rate of the tea buds standing upright. Put 3 grams of tea, and pour 70℃ boiling water into the tea cup quickly and then slowly, to 1/2, so that the tea buds are soaked. Later, pour it until it is 70% to 80% full. In order to make the tea buds absorb water evenly and accelerate the sinking, you can cover it at this time. After 5 minutes, remove the cover. Under the action of water and heat, the shape of the tea, the sinking and floating of the tea buds, the generation of bubbles, etc. are all rare when brewing other teas. You can only see the tea buds floating up and down in the cup, and finally stand in a forest, which is called "three ups and three downs".

The brewing utensils can include glass cups, milky white porcelain, yellow glazed porcelain, and colorful pots, cups, covered bowls and covered cups with yellow and orange as the main colors.
