The difference between freshwater pearls and saltwater pearls

Freshwater pearls and saltwater pearls are both important members of the pearl family, but when sold in the market, the market price of freshwater pearls is much lower than that of saltwater pearls, which shows that there are differences between them. So what is the difference between freshwater pearls and saltwater pearls? Where are their differences reflected?

The difference between freshwater pearls and saltwater pearls

1. Output

The main difference between freshwater pearls and saltwater pearls lies in their production. Freshwater pearls are mostly cultivated artificially, and their production is particularly high. Each shellfish can produce 6 to 8 pearls, while the production of saltwater pearls is very small, with an average of 3 to 5 coins producing one pearl. The difference in production directly leads to the fact that the price of saltwater pearls is much higher than that of freshwater pearls.

2. Size

There is also a clear difference in size between freshwater pearls and saltwater pearls. Saltwater pearls have a nucleus inside, and when they grow up they are much larger than freshwater pearls. Currently, the largest pearls in China are produced in Guangxi, with a diameter of more than 1.1 cm, while the diameter of freshwater pearls is only 6 to 8 mm, and most of them are relatively small.

3. Shape and gloss

There are also certain differences in shape and gloss between freshwater pearls and saltwater pearls. Saltwater pearls are more distant in shape and have a particularly good gloss, while freshwater pearls are mostly oval or rice-grain shaped. Their gloss is worse than that of saltwater pearls, and they do not have the natural luster of saltwater pearls.

4. Efficacy

There are also obvious differences in the effects of freshwater pearls and saltwater pearls. Saltwater pearls are a kind of pure natural pearls. The pearl powder obtained after grinding has many effects such as cooling, moisturizing and anti-inflammatory. Freshwater pearls are the result of artificial breeding. They are seriously polluted during diving. The pearl powder made from them has relatively poor moisturizing and anti-inflammatory effects.

5. Nutritional content

Freshwater pearls and seawater pearls contain a variety of nutrients that are beneficial to the human body, but relatively speaking, the content of nutrients in seawater pearls is relatively high, and it is less polluted by the outside world during the production process, so the nutritional value of seawater pearls is higher than that of freshwater pearls. After people eat it, it can delay the aging of the body and enhance the body's resistance to disease.
