The difference between kale and lettuce

The difference between kale and lettuce

Nowadays, many people who were born and live in cities cannot distinguish between some common vegetables. Some people often regard kale and lettuce as the same vegetable, but they don’t know that they are two fundamentally different things. In order to enable everyone to distinguish between kale and lettuce, I have specially sorted out the differences between the two, and now I write it down to share with everyone.

The difference between kale and lettuce

1. The edible parts of kale and lettuce are different

There are many different varieties of kale, including white kale and green kale. This vegetable is mainly eaten for its stalks, which have green leaves, a crisp texture and a tender taste. Lettuce is different from it. Lettuce is a vegetable whose main edible rhizome is relatively thick, and there is a white milky substance after cutting.

2. Kale and lettuce belong to different plant families

Kale is a type of cabbage, belonging to the Brassica family, while lettuce is a plant of the Asteraceae family. This plant is also called lettuce or lettuce. It is mostly available in large quantities in the spring every year and is produced in most parts of the country. Kale can be grown all year round, but it is only produced in areas south of the Yangtze River and is very rare in northern my country.

3. The nutritional benefits of kale and lettuce are different

The nutritional benefits of kale and lettuce are also very different. Lettuce contains a large amount of natural lactucin, which is slightly bitter and has a good analgesic effect. In addition, the white milky substance in it promotes the secretion of gastric juice and bile after entering the human body, which can promote digestion. Kale contains a large amount of vitamin C, which is several times the content of vitamin C in lettuce, and can quickly meet the body's needs for this nutrient. This is also the most important difference between the two.
