Here is an introduction to the cultivation techniques of eggplants. You can grow eggplants yourself:

Overview of Eggplant Cultivation

Eggplant is a warm-loving crop and is relatively resistant to high temperatures. The suitable temperature for fruiting is 25-30℃. It is not sensitive to the length of the photoperiod. As long as the temperature is suitable, it can bloom and bear fruit from spring to autumn. It is mainly cultivated in the open field. In the Yangtze River Basin, it is mostly sown and raised in the seedbed from winter to early spring. In the northern provinces, it is sown and raised in hotbeds or sunny beds in early spring. Due to the long fruiting period of eggplant, in addition to sufficient basal fertilizer, it also requires multiple topdressing (mainly nitrogen fertilizer, with appropriate addition of phosphorus fertilizer and potassium fertilizer). The main insect pests are cutworms, 28-star ladybugs and red spiders, and the main diseases are damping-off disease.

variety

Choose varieties that are resistant to low temperatures, weak light, and early maturing, such as Black Jade, Shenqie No. 1, Qizaqie No. 2, Green Round Eggplant, Black Round Eggplant No. 2, Yongfeng Black Mixed Eggplant, etc.

Preparation of soil bed

Use 6 parts of unpolluted field soil, 2 parts of decomposed high-quality chicken manure or pig manure, and 2 parts of decomposed horse manure or rice bran, mix well, and sieve for later use.

Seed soaking and germination

Soak the seeds in 1% potassium permanganate for 30 minutes, rinse repeatedly, soak in 55℃ water for 15 minutes, and then soak in 20℃ water for 24 hours. Rub the mucus on the seed coat with fine sand before germination, then wrap it in wet cloth and place it at 25-30℃ for germination. It usually takes 5-6 days for germination.

sowing

In the greenhouse, use a seedling tray or wooden box to spread 10 cm of soil, flatten it and water it thoroughly. Then sow the seeds evenly on the bed. The sowing amount is 35-40 grams per square meter.

Seedling division

Eggplant plant

Transplant the seedlings with a spacing of 8-10 cm between rows and plants, and water thoroughly after transplanting. Increase the daytime temperature to 25-30℃ and the nighttime temperature to 15-18℃ in the early stage. Lower the temperature after the seedlings have grown to 25℃ during the day and 15℃ at night, and the minimum temperature should not be lower than 10℃. The eggplant seedlings are mostly over 80 days old. Due to their long age, they are prone to lack of fertilizer in the later stage. You can use 0.3% diammonium phosphate as foliar topdressing.
