Introduction of water spinach

Water spinach is one of the main green leafy vegetables in summer and autumn. It belongs to the Convolvulaceae family and is an annual vegetable. Its leaves and vines are edible.

The stem of water spinach is hollow, the leaves are straight, the leaves are long and heart-shaped, the petioles are long, the color is green, and the texture is tender.

It is native to my country and is mainly distributed in the area south of the Yangtze River. It is produced from the end of the grass to the end of autumn.

The quality requirements for water spinach: large, green and tender leaves are preferred.

Nutritional value of water spinach

1. Clearing away heat and detoxifying:

Water spinach is rich in crude fiber, which is composed of cellulose, lignin and pectin. Pectin can accelerate the excretion of toxic substances in the body, and lignin can increase the activity of macrophages to swallow bacteria, kill bacteria and reduce inflammation, and can be used to treat sores, carbuncles, etc.

2. Laxative effect can prevent cancer:

The large amount of cellulose in water spinach can promote intestinal peristalsis and accelerate defecation, which has a positive effect on preventing and treating constipation and reducing intestinal cancer.

3. Strengthen physical fitness, clean teeth and prevent caries:

Water spinach is rich in vitamin C and carotene, and its vitamin content is higher than that of Chinese cabbage. These substances help to strengthen the body and prevent diseases. In addition, the chlorophyll in water spinach can clean teeth, prevent caries, and moisturize the skin.

4. Lowers blood sugar:

Purple water spinach contains insulin ingredients that can lower blood sugar and can be used as a good vegetable for diabetic patients.

Effects of eating water spinach

Water spinach is cold in nature, sweet in taste, and enters the liver, heart, large intestine, and small intestine meridians;

It can clear away heat and cool blood, promote diuresis, moisten the intestines and relieve constipation, clear away heat and detoxify, and promote dampness and hemostasis.

It is mainly used to treat epistaxis, constipation, stranguria, bloody stool, hemorrhoids, carbuncle, fracture, snake and insect bites, etc.
