Leek storage and nutritional content

Leek storage and nutritional content

I heard that leeks can enhance sexual function. We often use leeks when making dumplings. Come and learn about it.

Chinese chives

It is a perennial root vegetable. Its young leaves, flower stems, chive flowers, and young seeds are edible. It has white flowers. Due to the different leaf shapes, chives can be divided into broad-leaf chives and fine-leaf chives. Broad-leaf chives are cold-resistant and are also called mouth chives. They are mostly cultivated in the north. They have broad and soft leaves, light green leaves, less fiber, and good quality, but their fragrance is not as good as fine-leaf chives. Fine-leaf chives are heat-resistant and are mostly cultivated in the south. The leaves are narrow and long, dark green, with more fiber and rich fragrance.

Leeks are native to my country. As early as the Han Dynasty 2,000 years ago, my country already had the technology to cultivate leeks in greenhouses. In the Northern Song Dynasty, leek production was already in place. Leeks were introduced to Japan in the 9th century, and then gradually spread to East Asian countries, from Sakhalin Island and Korea in the north to Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia in the south, and Hawaii in the United States in the east. Leeks contain volatile propylene sulfide, so they have a spicy taste and can promote appetite. In addition to being used for cooking, leeks also have good medicinal value, especially for nourishing the liver and kidneys, warming the waist and knees, and strengthening yang and consolidating essence, so they are called the "Viagra" among vegetables.

According to the Compendium of Materia Medica, “Onions in the first month, leeks in the second month”, which means that eating leeks grown in February is most beneficial to health. It is especially worth mentioning that leeks have a warming effect on the human body, and can also increase physical strength and promote blood circulation. People who often have cold hands and feet, cold lower abdomen, backache or women with late menstruation can eat more leeks, but people with tonsillitis, nasal pyogenes and otitis media should not eat leeks.

Leek Benefits

1. Leek is warm in nature and spicy in taste. It has the effect of nourishing the kidney and promoting yang, so it can be used to treat impotence, spermatorrhea, premature ejaculation and other diseases.

2. Chives contain special ingredients such as volatile essential oils and sulfides, which emit a unique spicy smell, which helps to regulate liver qi, increase appetite and enhance digestive function.

3. The spicy smell of leek has the effect of dispersing blood stasis, activating blood circulation, promoting qi and removing stagnation. It is suitable for symptoms such as bruises, nausea, enteritis, vomiting blood, chest pain, etc.

4. Chives contain a large amount of vitamins and crude fiber, which can enhance gastrointestinal motility, treat constipation and prevent colon cancer.

Storage instructions

You can tie up the fresh and neat leeks with a string and place them in a basin of water with the roots facing downwards, or you can tie up the leeks after arranging them, wrap them with Chinese cabbage leaves and place them in a cool place. Of course, it is best to keep them in the refrigerator.

Cooking knowledge

1. Eating leeks in spring is good for the liver. The quality of leeks in early spring is the best, followed by those in late autumn, and the worst in summer. There is a saying that "leeks are fragrant in spring and smelly in summer".

2. The side dishes of leeks and shrimps can provide high-quality protein. At the same time, the crude fiber in leeks can promote gastrointestinal motility and keep bowel movements smooth.

Dietary precautions

1. Suitable for people with constipation, women with insufficient milk after childbirth, and people with cold constitution;

2. Eating too much will cause internal heat and be difficult to digest, so people with yin deficiency, hyperactivity of fire, eye diseases and weak gastrointestinal tract should not eat too much.

Home remedies for curing diseases

You can use 100-150 grams of leeks, wash and mash them, wrap them with gauze and apply them to the injured area. The swelling will go down and the bruises will become lighter.
