Ingredients for Apple Cinnamon Irish Oatmeal

1 cup steel cut oats, 1.5 tablespoons ground flaxseed meal, 1.5 cups milk, 1.5 cups water

Spray the slow cooker with cooking spray, then pour all the ingredients in, stir to mix, and cover the pot.

Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours.

Tips

1. The basic cooking method for steel cut oats is to add 4 cups of liquid (water, milk, juice, etc.) to one cup of rice. On this basis, the amount of liquid can be adjusted according to personal preference.

2. When using a slow cooker, you can cook directly in the inner pot, or you can put all the ingredients in a container that can be boiled in water, and then put the container in the inner pot filled with water to cook. The porridge cooked directly in the inner pot will have a thin hard shell, which I quite like. You can choose according to your own preferences.

3. Our slow cooker has a capacity of 5 quarts. The above is the amount for 2 breakfasts. If you have a smaller slow cooker, you can halve the ingredients.

4. If you don't have a slow cooker, there is also a quicker way to cook it on a regular stove: boil water and milk before going to bed, turn off the heat, pour the oats in and stir, and cover the pot. Get up early the next morning, add all the other ingredients, boil, stir for a while, and cook until the oats have the right texture, then turn off the heat.

5. If you don't have applesauce, you can use an apple instead. The porridge with apples tastes sweet and sour, very delicious, and with cinnamon, it feels a bit like apple pie. If you don't like the taste of cinnamon, you can leave it out. If you like it very sweet, you can add 1 tablespoon of brown sugar. I really like the taste of cinnamon, so I sprinkled a little bit of it after serving it, and then garnished it with a few raisins and pine nuts~ You can also add your favorite fresh fruits or dried fruits, as well as nuts~
