What is the difference between grass shrimp and green shrimp?

Grass shrimp, scientific name Penaeus monodon, also known as black shell shrimp, belongs to the class of soft armor, family of Penaeidae. The frontal tooth formula is 7-8/2-3. The cephalothorax has antennal spines, liver spines and upper stomach teeth, no frontal gastric ridge, and the liver ridge is obvious and straight. The side groove of the frontal angle is short and does not extend beyond the middle of the cephalothorax. The fifth walking leg has no external limbs. The body is arranged with dark green, dark brown and light yellow horizontal stripes, forming bright patterns on the abdomen. It has strong vitality, delicious meat, and large individuals. It is the largest species in the genus Penaeus. The largest female shrimp is up to 33cm long and weighs more than 500g. Omnivorous.

The body of the shrimp is short and thick, and the whole body consists of two parts: the cephalothorax and the abdomen. The sections of the cephalothorax are connected, and a large bone plate covers the back and both sides, called the cephalothorax or carapace. The cephalothorax is thick, the front part of the abdomen is thicker, and the back part gradually becomes thinner and narrower. The frontal horn is located in the center of the front of the cephalothorax, with a straight upper edge and a sharp end. There is a sword-like protrusion at the front of the carapace, with 11 to 15 teeth on the upper edge and 2 to 4 teeth on the lower edge.

The surface of the shrimp has a hard shell that protects the body. It is composed of 20 segments, including 5 segments in the head, 8 segments in the thorax, and 7 segments in the abdomen. It has 5 pairs of legs, the first 2 pairs are in the shape of pincers, and the last 3 pairs are in the shape of claws. The second pair of legs of male shrimps is particularly powerful, and the appendages of the sixth abdominal segment have evolved into a powerful tail fan, which plays a role in maintaining the balance of the shrimp body, and in ascending and descending and retreating.
