Medical effects of grapefruit:

According to traditional Chinese medicine, grapefruit is sweet and sour, and has a cold nature. It has the functions of strengthening the stomach and digesting food, reducing gas and eliminating phlegm, and lightening the body and brightening the complexion. Modern medical research has found that grapefruit flesh is very rich in vitamin C and insulin-like ingredients, so it has the functions of lowering blood sugar, lowering blood lipids, losing weight, and beautifying the skin. Regular consumption has an auxiliary therapeutic effect on diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and vascular sclerosis, and has the function of strengthening the body and beautifying the skin for obese people.

Grapefruit also has the effects of strengthening the stomach, moistening the lungs, replenishing blood, clearing the intestines, and facilitating bowel movements. It can promote wound healing and has a good auxiliary effect on sepsis. In addition, grapefruit contains physiologically active substances such as glycosides, which can reduce blood viscosity and reduce the formation of blood clots. Therefore, it also has a good preventive effect on cerebrovascular diseases such as cerebral thrombosis and stroke. Fresh grapefruit meat is an ideal food for diabetic patients because it contains ingredients similar to insulin.

Specific methods of grapefruit weight loss:

In the morning - mainly high-protein and high-nutrition food, it is recommended to eat 1 cup of milk + 1 portion of pastry, and add 1/3 of a grapefruit; before lunch - eat 1/3 of a grapefruit after lunch; the same as for lunch in the evening.

Note: Control the intake of starch (do you know what kind of starch makes you fat?) and fat appropriately. Make sure to consume about one grapefruit per day. During the weight loss period, do not diet excessively, which will affect the body's basic metabolism. If you have a cold constitution, the daily grapefruit intake can be appropriately reduced.

There are also taboos in eating grapefruit:

1. Grapefruit cannot be taken with certain medicines.

Clinically, it has been found that for patients with hyperlipidemia, taking a tablet of Medecine with a glass of grapefruit juice is equivalent to taking 12 to 15 tablets of the same drug with a glass of water, which can achieve the lipid-lowering effect. Patients may experience muscle pain or even kidney disease.

Some patients who eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while taking the anti-allergic drug terfenadine may experience dizziness, palpitations, arrhythmia, etc., or even sudden death.

Other drugs that have adverse effects with grapefruit include: cyclosporine, caffeine, calcium antagonists, cisapride, etc. Drinking a glass of grapefruit juice may cause the drug to react for 24 hours.

Therefore, patients who are taking medication, especially the elderly, should not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice.

2. Women taking contraceptives should avoid eating it.

A study in the United States shows that grapefruit has the most prominent effect on birth control pills.

Experts say, "If a woman who takes birth control pills eats 1-2 grapefruits after sex, or takes birth control pills directly with a large glass of grapefruit juice, she may become a mother because grapefruits hinder the absorption of birth control pills by women."

3. Grapefruit is cold in nature, and people with spleen deficiency and diarrhea will have diarrhea after eating grapefruit.

Therefore, people with weak constitution should not eat too much.
