Can pregnant women eat almonds?

First point

Almonds on the market are divided into two major categories according to their sources, one is almonds and the other is almond kernels. The large almonds we eat now belong to almond kernels, and the smaller almonds belong to real almonds. Almonds and almond kernels are divided into different varieties, some of which are bitter almonds and some are sweet almonds. Generally speaking, the cultivated species used to harvest almonds for consumption are sweet almonds, which can be eaten by pregnant women, such as American almonds and almonds cultivated in Xinjiang, my country, while many wild almonds and almond kernels are bitter almonds.

Second point

Bitter almonds contain a lot of amygdalin, which will release highly toxic hydrocyanic acid after hydrolysis, so bitter almonds are poisonous and pregnant women should not eat them. However, amygdalin is also a medicinal ingredient. Bitter almonds themselves are used as medicine. The effects of Chinese medicine almonds in relieving asthma and cough are related to this. The amygdalin contained in non-bitter almonds is negligible, so there is no need to worry.

Almonds are high in fat

Both sweet almonds and bitter almonds have high nutritional value and high fat content. In order to supplement nutrition without causing obesity, it is recommended to eat no more than 25 grams (half a tael) of almonds per day, which is about a dozen almonds.
