How to grow gardenia? Methods and precautions for growing gardenia

Gardenia has tender green leaves, white flowers, rich fragrance and is of particularly high ornamental value. It can usually be made into potted plants and grown indoors, but some people always have trouble growing gardenias. This is because they don’t understand its growing methods and precautions. After reading the professional growing knowledge I introduced, you will know how to grow gardenias and easily grow them well.

How to grow gardenia

1. Prepare potting soil

The first thing to do when growing gardenias is to prepare the potting soil. This plant likes slightly acidic soil and loose, fertile soil. When making potted plants, you can use leaf mold, peat soil, garden soil and other materials to prepare the potting soil. You can also add an appropriate amount of bone meal or cake fertilizer as base fertilizer when preparing the potting soil.

2. Daily maintenance

Daily care is also very important during the cultivation period of gardenia. It likes a warm and humid environment. The plant grows fastest between April and September each year. During this period, it is necessary to water it frequently to keep the soil moist. In dry weather, you should also spray water on the leaves at night to increase the air humidity. Usually, you can water it with a small amount of citric acid solution every three to five days. This will make the leaves of the gardenia greener and promote it to bloom sooner.

Precautions for growing gardenia

1. Adequate lighting

When cultivating gardenia, you must pay attention to providing it with sufficient light. It is a light-loving plant. Only sufficient sunlight can make its leaves green, allow it to grow normally, and bloom large and numerous beautiful flowers. It should receive sunlight for between six and eight hours a day during the cultivation period. If it is placed in a semi-shaded environment for a long time, it will grow slowly, the branches will become weak, and the flowering period will be delayed.

2. Pay attention to pruning

Pruning is also something people must pay attention to when growing gardenias. When its main trunk grows to 20 centimeters, the top can be removed, leaving three or four important branches below it. It should also be pruned in time after the flowering period each year. All the dead flowers, diseased branches and weak branches can be cut off. This can promote the growth of new branches and allow it to bloom more beautiful flowers in the second year.
