Pea Introduction

Pea is a plant of the leguminous family. It originated in western Asia, the Mediterranean region, Ethiopia, and western Asia Minor. Due to its strong adaptability, it has a wide geographical distribution throughout the world.

Peas have a cultivation history of more than 2,000 years in my country. They are now cultivated everywhere, with the main producing areas including Sichuan, Henan, Hubei, Jiangsu, Qinghai and more than ten other provinces and regions.

The shape of pea seeds varies according to the variety, most of them are spherical, and there are also elliptical, oblate, concave, wrinkled, etc. The colors include yellow, white, green, red, rose, brown, black, etc.

Peas can be divided into three varieties according to plant shape: soft pod, grain-grained, and dwarf peas; they can also be divided into soft pod and hard pod peas according to the presence and thickness of the leathery membrane in the inner layer of the pod shell; they can also be divided into white and purple (red) peas according to flower color.

Peas can be stir-fried as vegetables, and when the seeds are ripe, they can be ground into pea flour for consumption. Because peas are round and bright green, they are very beautiful and are often used as side dishes to add color to dishes and stimulate appetite.

Snow peas are pea pods. After being fried, they are emerald green in color and have a crisp and delicious taste.

Pea sprouts are pea seedlings with 2 to 4 cotyledons. They are fresh, tender and fragrant, and are most suitable for making soup. Their nutritional value is roughly the same as that of peas.
