How to graft eggplant How to graft eggplant

There are many ways to graft eggplants. Today I will introduce several common methods:

1. Cleft grafting

This is a commonly used method in eggplant grafting, with a high survival rate and high grafting efficiency. When the rootstock and scion eggplant seedlings grow to 5-6 true leaves, cut the rootstock stem horizontally with a blade to remove the upper part, retaining 2-3 true leaves, and make a 1 cm deep incision vertically in the middle of the rootstock stem. Then pull out the scion seedling, remove the lower end of the eggplant seedling stem where purple-black and green alternate, retain 3-4 true leaves, and cut it into a wedge shape. The wedge size is equivalent to the rootstock. Then insert the scion into the incision of the rootstock, align it, and fix it with a grafting clamp.

2. Adjacent method

Grafting is done when both the stock and the scion have 3 to 4 true leaves. The method is to select the incision of the stock between the second and third leaves, remove the leaves from the base, cut from top to bottom at an angle of 30° to 40°, take out the scion with roots, keep it moist, use a blade to cut the leaves from the base at the 3 to 4 true leaves, and then cut a 1 cm long incision upward from the stem at an angle of 30° to 40°, then fix the two inclined surfaces of the stock and scion with a clamp after facing each other.

3. Plug-in method

Grafting is done when the stock has 5 to 6 true leaves and the scion has 2 to 3 true leaves. When grafting, leave 1 to 3 true leaves on the stock and cut the upper part with a blade, then use a toothpick to poke a hole about 1 cm deep at a slight angle downward. Cut the stem into a 6 to 8 mm wedge-shaped cut below the cotyledon of the scion, and insert the scion with the cut facing downward into the small hole of the stock.
