1. It is not suitable to be eaten with cucumber at the same time

Cucumbers contain a vitamin C-degrading enzyme that will destroy the vitamin C that is abundant in other vegetables. Tomatoes are typical vegetables rich in vitamin C. If the two are eaten together, the vitamin C we take in from tomatoes will be destroyed by the degrading enzyme in the cucumber, and the effect of supplementing nutrition will not be achieved.

2. Do not eat on an empty stomach

Tomatoes contain a large amount of gum, fruit quality, persimmon gum powder, soluble astringents and other ingredients. These substances easily react chemically with stomach acid and condense into insoluble lumps. These lumps may block the exit of the stomach, the pylorus, and cause gastrointestinal bloating, pain and other discomfort symptoms.

3. Do not eat unripe tomatoes

Green tomatoes contain alkaloid glycosides (solanine), which are needle-shaped crystals and are very stable to alkalinity, but can be hydrolyzed by acid. Therefore, people who eat unripe green tomatoes often feel uncomfortable, with a bitter taste in the mouth at the mildest, and even poisoning in severe cases. When green tomatoes turn red, they no longer contain solanine.

4. Tomatoes and certain medicines should not be eaten together

It is forbidden to eat tomatoes when taking anticoagulant drugs such as heparin, dicoumarol, or neostigmine or galantamine. This is because tomatoes contain a lot of vitamin K. The main function of vitamin K is to catalyze the synthesis of prothrombin and thrombin in the liver. When vitamin K is insufficient, the synthesis of prothrombin is restricted, which prolongs the coagulation time and causes subcutaneous and muscle bleeding.

5. Pregnant women should be careful when eating tomatoes

Pregnant women should pay special attention when eating tomatoes: do not eat tomatoes with growths and unripe tomatoes, because green tomatoes contain a large amount of toxic tomatine. After pregnant women eat them, they will experience poisoning symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and general fatigue, which is harmful to the development of the fetus.
