The edible part of pumpkin is more than 80%. Pumpkin has thin skin and thick flesh, and tastes sweet. It can be eaten as a vegetable and can be stored for a long time to replace food. Therefore, pumpkin is a good product for famine relief. Pumpkin also has therapeutic and medicinal value. Almost the whole pumpkin can be used as medicine.

Wash and fry the pumpkin seeds, grind them into powder, mix them with honey and boiled water and drink them. This can expel roundworms, ginger worms and tapeworms.

Roast and grind the pumpkin flowers into powder, mix it with sesame oil and apply it to treat head sores and carbuncles. If there are no ulcers, mix it with white wine and apply it. It has the effect of reducing swelling and relieving pain.

Researchers from the U.S. Department of Agriculture found that eating a handful of roasted pumpkin seeds every day can reduce the amount of urine in patients with enlarged prostate and significantly alleviate symptoms of frequent urination and urgency.

Pumpkin flesh is rich in cobalt, which can increase the release of insulin in the body, promote normal insulin secretion in diabetic patients, and thus lower blood sugar.

Pumpkin pulp has the effects of clearing away heat, removing dampness and detoxifying, and is suitable for surgical injuries such as burns, scalds, shrapnel and foreign objects stuck in the flesh. There is such a legend to support this: Once, Xu Shiyou led his troops to engage in hand-to-hand combat with the Japanese invaders, and was stabbed in the arm with a bayonet, leaving a large wound. After the battle, because there was no doctor, he stuffed a ball of pumpkin pulp into the wound and bandaged it. Soon, the wound healed with scars.

Pumpkin Rice

Old pumpkin and rice in appropriate amounts. Peel the pumpkin, wash it, and cut it into pieces; rinse the rice, put it into the pot, add appropriate amount of water and cook until the rice is cooked, mix well and it is ready. Take it once a day to strengthen the spleen and replenish qi, and it is suitable for weak spleen and stomach, malnutrition, etc.

Pumpkin Pie

An appropriate amount of old pumpkin. Peel the pumpkin, wash it, cut it into pieces, steam it, and then mash it evenly to make small cakes. Fry them in a hot oil pan until both sides are golden brown. Take it once a day to reduce blood lipids and blood sugar, and it is suitable for the diet therapy of people with dyslipidemia and diabetes.
