Treatment of cowpea poisoning

Treatment of cowpea poisoning

How to deal with cowpea poisoning? I think many friends are very concerned about this issue.

cowpea

Hainan cowpeas, which are caught in a storm, contain a toxic ingredient called "isocarbophos". What exactly is "isocarbophos" and what harm does it bring to the human body?

Director Wu Guichang introduced: "Isocarbophos is a highly toxic insecticide, mainly used to control spider mites, lepidoptera and homoptera pests, as well as rice gall midges, rice weevils, grass locusts, etc. However, the state has expressly prohibited the use of isocarbophos pesticides on fruits, tea, tobacco, vegetables, Chinese herbal medicines and other plants or vegetables and fruits." Director Wu Guichang explained the reason: "Isocarbophos is an organophosphorus pesticide, which can cause poisoning through the esophagus, skin and respiratory tract. Ingestion, inhalation or skin contact with a large amount of organophosphorus pesticides in a short period of time will cause acute poisoning symptoms." Once poisoned, symptoms of varying degrees will appear depending on the amount of poison ingested. Acute poisoning usually occurs within 12 hours. If taken orally, the disease may occur immediately. It can be divided into three categories according to the condition: mild, moderate and severe.

Mild poisoning: headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, sweating, weakness, chest tightness, blurred vision, poor appetite, etc. The activity of whole blood cholinesterase is generally reduced to 70-50% of the normal value. Moderate poisoning: In addition to the above symptoms, there are also mild breathing difficulties, muscle tremors, pupil constriction, mental confusion, unsteady walking, sweating, drooling, abdominal pain and diarrhea, etc. The activity of whole blood cholinesterase is generally 50-30% of the normal value.

Severe poisoning: In addition to the above symptoms, there are also coma, convulsions, breathing difficulties, foaming at the mouth, pulmonary edema, pupil constriction, incontinence, convulsions, respiratory paralysis, etc. The activity of whole blood cholinesterase generally drops below 30%, and timely rescue is necessary. Early or mild poisoning is often ignored, so it should be distinguished from colds, heat stroke, enteritis and other diseases. Cholinesterase in blood can be measured in places where conditions permit.

Treatment of cowpea poisoning

Once food poisoning is suspected and uncomfortable symptoms occur, you should go to the nearest hospital for treatment immediately. If severe coma symptoms occur, family members should immediately call the emergency number 120 for help. Before the 120 ambulance arrives, take self-help measures immediately. Generally speaking, the most common method of self-first aid for poisoning is to induce vomiting. For those who have been poisoned for a short time and have no obvious vomiting, drinking concentrated salt water, ginger water or a large amount of warm water is a conventional method to induce vomiting. If you still can't vomit, you can use your fingers or chopsticks to directly stimulate the throat to induce vomiting. However, when coma is caused by food poisoning, it is not advisable to induce vomiting artificially, otherwise it is easy to cause suffocation. Of course, this emergency treatment is not the best way to treat food poisoning, but it is just to buy time for the treatment of acute food poisoning. After emergency treatment, the patient should go to the hospital for treatment immediately.
