Introduction of Monk Fruit

Momordica grosvenori is the mature fruit of the Cucurbitaceae plant Momordica grosvenori. Momordica grosvenori is a perennial herbaceous vine that grows under forests on hillsides at 400 to 1,400 meters, in wetlands and shrubs by rivers. It is distributed in Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou and other places, and is cultivated in large quantities in some areas of Guangxi.

The fruits are picked when they are ripe in autumn, left for 8 to 10 days, and then baked on a kang when the peel turns from green to yellow.

The fruit of Luo Han Guo is ovate, spherical or elliptical, 5 to 9 cm long, 3.5 to 6 cm in diameter, brown, yellowish brown or brownish green on the surface, sometimes with dark brown spots and yellowish-white soft hairs, with 8 to 10 longitudinal lines. There are traces of style at the top and pedicel at the base. The fruit is light, crisp, and thin in skin. The fruit pulp is spongy and shrunken, light brown. The seeds are oblate, numerous, about 1.5 cm long and 1.2 cm wide; light red to brownish red, slightly concave in the middle of both sides, with radial grooves around and grooves on the edges. The smell is slight and the taste is sweet. Large, complete, no sound when shaken, and yellowish brown are preferred.
