Cantaloupe Introduction Nutritional Analysis of Cantaloupe

I believe that everyone eats cantaloupe very often. This fruit has high nutritional value. Let me introduce it to you in detail below.

Cantaloupe

Muskmelon is named for its sweet taste, and is also called cantaloupe for its pleasant fragrance. Muskmelon is a summer fruit that can cool you down, and its nutritional value is comparable to that of watermelon. According to measurements, except for the lower water and protein content of melon, the other nutrients of melon are not less than those of watermelon, while the content of aromatic substances, minerals, sugar and vitamin C is significantly higher than that of watermelon. Eating more melon is beneficial to the activities of the heart, liver and intestinal system, and promotes endocrine and hematopoietic functions. Traditional Chinese medicine confirms that melon has the significant effects of "cooling down, relieving thirst and promoting urination".

Introduction of cantaloupe

According to records of Goryeo history, cantaloupe was introduced to Korea via China during the Three Kingdoms period. Due to its unique aroma and refreshing taste, it has become a favorite snack fruit in summer along with watermelon. Its cultivated area has also been increasing every year. According to statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the cultivated area of cantaloupe reached 10,139 hectares in 1980, accounting for 23.5% of the cultivated area of fruits and vegetables.

China's traditional melon varieties have undergone a long process of adaptation and differentiation and developed into local unique varieties. Among them, the Chenghuan cantaloupe (also known as frog cantaloupe) in Chenghuan, South Chungcheong Province and the Jiangxi cantaloupe in Jiangxi, South Pyeongan are representative excellent traditional varieties. In addition, other widely cultivated varieties include Shigou cantaloupe and persimmon cantaloupe.

In the mid-1950s, with the popularity of the Euncheon variety introduced from Japan, traditional varieties began to hybridize with it and lost their unique morphology. At the same time, traditional varieties are generally late-maturing varieties with low sugar content and prone to fermentation. In contrast, Euncheon melons are early-maturing varieties with high sugar content and easy to transport. Therefore, they quickly replaced traditional varieties and became the main variety of Korean melons since the 1960s. Since the 1950s, Seongju melons have also been cultivated using high hats until today.
