According to the "Taiping Guangji" Volume 3 quoting the "Hanwu Neichuan", it is recorded that on the seventh day of the seventh month, the Queen Mother of the West descended and gave the emperor four fairy peaches. The emperor ate them and collected the pits. The Queen Mother asked the emperor, and the emperor said, "I want to plant them." The Queen Mother said, "This peach only bears fruit once every three thousand years. The soil in the middle of summer is thin, so it will not grow if you plant it." The emperor stopped. The lyrics of "Shui Tiao Ge Tou·For the Longevity of the Time" by Zhang Xiaoxiang of the Song Dynasty: "The peaches are not ripe yet, and I am willing to live in the world for a thousand years." In the folk, people use peaches to pray for blessings, and call the longevity peaches. It is always indispensable in birthday banquets. In traditional New Year paintings, longevity peaches are more expressive, such as peaches and Ganoderma lucidum are called immortal longevity, and peaches and bats are called blessed longevity, which are often seen in "Peach Offering Longevity Picture", implying longevity. Peaches are always associated with immortality and longevity because of their rich nutritional value. Legend has it that the two mortals who enjoyed the "immortal fruit" peaches were King Mu of Zhou and Emperor Wu of Han.

Legend has it that when King Mu of Zhou passed by Kunlun Mountain, he was entertained by the Queen Mother of the West and lingered for many days drinking and writing poetry in Yaochi. Later, King Mu of Zhou passed by Kunlun Mountain again and looked for Yaochi Peach Garden everywhere, but he couldn't find it, so he had to leave reluctantly.

According to the "Inner Biography of Emperor Wu of Han", in April of the sixth year of Yuanfeng, the Queen Mother of the West met with Emperor Wu of Han and gave him four peaches. After eating them, Emperor Wu of Han felt comfortable all over and his teeth were fragrant, so he wanted to plant them in the imperial garden. The Queen Mother of the West told him: "The soil in Central China is thin, and peaches will not grow." After that, Emperor Wu of Han was greedy for the delicious peaches and sent his minister Dongfang Shuo to Kunlun three times to steal peaches. Emperor Wu of Han also carefully collected the peach pits he had eaten, and they were passed down to the Ming Dynasty. According to the "Wanwei Yubian" of the Ming Dynasty, "During the Hongwu period of the Yuan Dynasty, the peach pits stored in the inner treasury of the Yuan Dynasty were five inches long and four inches and seven tenths wide, with fourteen characters engraved on them: 'The Queen Mother of the West gave Emperor Wu peaches in Chenghua Palace'.

Xinjiang is the origin of peaches. Peaches are cultivated in Xinjiang, Shandong (Mazhai Village), Hebei, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Gansu and other provinces and regions. However, in terms of quality, color, taste and various nutritional components, peaches from Xinjiang are the best. The peaches from the 143rd Regiment of Shihezi, Xinjiang are the best in terms of taste, appearance and nutritional value. The 143rd Regiment of the Eighth Agricultural Division of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps began to plant peaches on a large scale in 1955.
